Focal Stellia Closed-Back Headphones - Official Thread

I completely understand, I really appreciate you taking the time to review the Stellia again. That’s awesome, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

That’s very helpful, thank you very much.

Just buy some Koss Porta Pros and Yaxi pads and call it a day… :upside_down_face:

Do it!!

Ok I’m joking. Seriously though I thought the Stellia were better than both my previously owned Clears and my currently owned Elegia.

But, for me the Verite Closed is my preferred closed back sound wise. The Stellia is close though… and if it was in a different color scheme I probably would have the Stellia right now lol… it is one of the most comfortable headphones I’ve tried, and the quality of its build and materials is very Focal awesome!

I can hear you thinking about it from here…

With which headphones do you compare the Stellia? As someone stated above, you should definitely compare them to the Verite Closed. And maybe the Senn HD820. Other closed back headphones don’t compete on the same technical level, except you know an exotic model we don’t know?

I would suggest Denon D9200. I have had both and the D9200 can impress.

I haven’t heard anything yet that competes with the Stellia, but I imagine the Verite C is the main competitor - if it’s anything like the open version in technical performance that is.

Personally, I prefer the closed to my open Verite… but there might be bias outside of sound in that opinion…

The closed in my opinion, and inline with a group of others on this and other forums is that the VC is equal if not greater than the VO…

But, the Stellia, speaking from memory so don’t go quoting me, had better details and I think faster… but I’m fuzzy on that last part…

Both are exceptional… but for me ZMF is the tonal king and just feels right to my ears.

Now if the Stellia came out in a reverse color scheme to the Elegia… I might just end up buying a set… as Focal is my other headphone mistress of choice lol

Going from the VO to VC do you miss the VO’s diffuse sound stage (with Universe pads)? For me that’s a part of what makes the VO special. I guess it depends on what kind of music you’re listening to as I have read that many people prefer the Verite (flat) pads, especially for rock and pop.

Out of curiosity do you think that the VO with flat pads sounds more similar to the VC?

I find the VO to be most similar when using the BE2/Verite perf pads, but prefer the sound of the universal perf pads. But, the different pad rolls are nuances not large scale differences to me, more of a fine tuning deal. At the end of the day I have both for their unique experiences, yet similar enough to know that I’ll like either one depending on the circumstances…

I guess it comes down to preferences. Do you like a bolder, lusher sound with the caveat of slightly recessed mids, or do you crave for fastness and accuracy as well as clear mids. Someone I tust and who had both headphones for a few weeks side by side eventually sold the VC because it didn’t give him the immediacy and raw dynamic nature the Stellia has. I guess if money is no obstacle then it won’t hurt to own both

Holy molly man, lol Wow that headphone.

My LCD2C is sibilant to my ears but that was on another whole level. I also had to press the pads into my head to get any bass out of it.

The Focal lineup is worlds ahead of that thing, for cheaper money too. Maybe it was my source, I have heard they are source dependant. It just made me appreciate the Focal stuff a lot more.

I do understand that its the 800 and not the 800s, which from what I have heard is a bit better.

I love my HD800(sdrmod) but the ZMF lineup has surpassed it, but it’s still amazing to throw it on the tube amp and be blown away by the stage.

I´ve been lurking this forum for quite sometime now, and finally registered to get some impressions from @Resolve.

What´s your take in the Stellia´s VS the Heddphone?

I know one is CB and the other OB, but in terms of resolution and detail retrieval how would you compare both?

I just put my stellia´s for sale to get the Heddphone and I don´t want to regreat it later on

Hey. Good question. They’re very different headphones. The HEDDphone does better at textural nuances and speed (tightness, intense attack), and its tonality is a bit brighter in general than the Stellia. But the Stellia has better slam, or at least it gives off the perception of that. The Stellia has a bit of a mid-bass elevation giving it a full and thumpy sound, but it can also be too much for some. Honestly they’re so different that I find it difficult to compare. I’d say they have completely different applications and excel at different types of music. The HEDDphone is also way more spacious and open sounding with a much bigger stage, but of course the Stellia is much lighter and more comfortable. If it came down to strictly sound quality and performance, yeah the HEDDphone is better in my opinion, but there are good reasons to prefer the Stellia too.
