HEDD Audio HEDDphone - Official Thread

… so what you’re saying is, once I get the HeddPhone, I don’t have to go to the gym anymore?

That’s my takeaway.

It probably isn’t obvious but I haven’t been going regularly for years now. This can only mean great things for my physique.

I need to start that head and neck workout pronto.

Sweet! Weight isn’t an issue for me, so I’m really looking forward to impressions.

I wonder what headphones they recommend for the midsection. I was thinking of Lipo with a firehose.

Ditto, I would love to try both these and the SRa1. However, my money tree hasn’t matured yet.
I am jealous of you guys sometimes.

Head and muscle neck training for Audeze wearers.

Not exactly.

I think it means once you get the HeddPhone, you’ll transition from the gym to physical therapy for cervical spine issues.

These jokes!

Is everyone’s neck really that weak?

Same here, but I think the HEDDphone MSRP is a little more reasonable than many other ‘flagship’ products. I think their plan is to introduce this model then expand the line, or so they stated in the video I previously posted in this thread.

So the estimated retail for these would be 1700 euro less VAT. Which means ~$2.0-2.25K in U.S.? (doesn’t include cost of on-site masseuse for relief of neck strain).

2 reactions to the Darko video above:

  • The title was concerning…seemed to suggest only evangelicals could own this headphone (hopefully not)

  • People with narrow doorways may not be appropriate owners, as simply going through a narrow doorway w/these on could result in accidental decapitation

(ie, lots of HEDDphones F.S. after short periods of ownership)

There are so many I would love to have at the moment. But then again its something to aspire to. I have to feel lucky with what I already own. Reading all these posts and frequenting headphone forums is lethal for the bank balance.

I’m hoping the Heddphone will be my last set of cans for a long time. If they don’t have bass quantity then I may not get them. I’m okay with the weight as I own lcd 4 and 1266 and neither of those hurt or exhaust me out.

Kidding aside, I’d like to hear these. Hard to imagine actually owning such a Bunyanesque headphone.

Then again, I plan to sell some stuff in the spring & should have sufficient $$-in-hand afterward for new/deranged audio adventures.

I’m really curious how power hungry this driver will be. Are there impedance differences as frequency changes like on dynamic drivers, or is it flat like a planar? Is it sensitive to OI like the Raal? Lots of questions.

Well the are a little less efficient then my 1266. The gsx mini powers perfectly my he6se and 1266. So I’m not worried about power.

AMT/Heil tweeters are relatively sensitive, so shouldn’t be power hogs (unlike planar drivers). I just viewed specs on several after-market AMT tweeters: their impedance is typically low (<10 ohms) and described as linear/resistance throughout their range.

Then again, as tweeters they go no lower than ~1500 Hz. Who knows what kind of impedance dips/spikes will occur in the bass range when one is used as full-range driver? There seems to be no other example of these drivers being used full-range…

Right, but not all amps have that power. Tube amps with higher OI and less current or voltage might not be a good match. Amps that normally sound good for dynamic drivers might sound really messed up if the impedance for low frequencies are way different than mids and highs, things of that nature.

they posted the specs online and they are in the realm of 1266. Which means high gain on my amp.

They posted general specs, but nothing like impedance curves. Take the hd800 for example. It’s a 300 ohm headphone, right? That’s what the posted specs say. But if you dig deeper you’ll see the impedance shoots above 600 ohms in the bass frequency range.

So, impedance spikes and dips indicate the headphone will react differently to different amps. If the impedance doubles, like on the hd800, and the amp can’t supply the power to overcome it, it’s gonna sound bad.

What about my amps? Not everyone has your amp.
