Down the pub, mate; three pints in …
Too slow … four pints …
And none of this “pint = 12oz” nor “beer = 4.5%” colonial nonsense …
Torq said if you plan on using those amps I mentioned don’t bother with X headphones. Which meant two things to me at least, those amps are bad, or those amps are low end which will make those cans sound bad, which is OK, that’s his opinion.
Now, the audio world is a bit like the wild west in terms of business. Anyone in there a basement with a knowledge of some electrical engineering can make a tube amp for example. However, I get why they are still used, if you like them cool.
The audio world had and still does have a lot of marketing to hype sales on products that might not in reality cut the mustard. Companies like THX who has been around forever, has had time to refine their tech. A small business that’s been around since 2012 has not. A company who is doing R&D and manufacturing in places like China can do it faster and cheaper then a company in CA or NYC (however I buy USA when possible personally). That all plays a factor, higher the cost does not necessarily mean better sometimes.
If I make a tube AMP at home or any other amp, its going to cost more money then a corp or established LLC. R&D, parts, cost to manufacture, that cost is then transferred to you the consumer. So, my amp which has less R&D cost 2K but the amp made by a bigger business cost 1K, they can make more and sell more and have already done most their R&D, lower cost.
Now does not mean you have people out there that have not made great tube amps or hardware that sound good and have been able to manage good distortion, sure, I bet there are people out there that know what they are doing and everything is grand, I am personally am just weary of boutique hardware. Measurements to an extent do matter. I am sorry again this opened a can of worms. That’s what I think anyways, and for me its helped me filter out products, but I will try the amps you all recommend. I understand I could be missing something here, from an engineer stand point it’s just made sense to me.
No.
It just means they are a poor match for those particular headphones.
Beyond that …
Solid-state amps are MUCH easier to DIY than tube amps. Follow the reference designs (included in the data sheet) for most common op-amps and you have your next 0.0001% THD+N cheapie.
Nothing wrong with cheap, well-measuring amps. Just don’t confuse numbers with enjoyment nor synergy.
Well said, again sorry dude, I will never talk about this again, lol.
Also thank you again for earlier. Enjoy them pints, have a good week, stay safe.
these are budget amps that while having more than enough power do not do justice to a 6k HP
more than enough, no issue
Happy Cake Day Perogie. IMHO far too many people get hung up on measurements alone without taking into account the most important aspect. How it sounds to you and do you enjoy it.
4.5% = H20 was taught to me at an early age.
Thank you.
Hello,
Can anyone confirm the type of cable needed for the Susvara, you need a 2 or 3 post correct? Not a mono, the stock is a two post cable. I saw above someone ran into an issue with the fit trying a mono cable.
Correct?
Wrong?
Assuming yours is a 2.5 mm connection, you need a dual 2.5 mm TS or TRS to whatever.
You might get a way with the TRRS connector, I’ve never tried one.
Unless you have the 3.5mm version It’s the same cable as an HE400 or HE1000.
Yes, its a 2.5MM.
The vendor replied and said Mono TS or TRRS should work… worst case the cables like 40 bucks, not going to have my heart broken if I run into an issue.
Thank you for this post. The frequency response on this headphone is almost perfect for me, but it’s a touch too fatiguing in most cases. Based on your plots here, I’m not exactly sure what to try out here. Perhaps the Auteur pads? On their website, they are only currently selling the Suede (perf and unperf) and Hybrid (perf and unperf). Perhaps Suede perf would be good to try?
I’m also open to EQ’ing (I have a RME ADI-2 FS), but I’m still pretty new to it. Does anyone have some good suggestions on what settings (frequency and factor) to generally try out when a headphone is too fatiguing? I know every headphone is different, but I imagine there are certain frequencies that are the biggest problem for the ear?
Hi there, try the Dekoni Elite Velour pads, they make the Susvara even smoother and a tad warmer. If anyone wants the opposite effect, the fenestrated sheepskin ones expand soundstage and make details more apparent.
hey everyone, hope you are having a great night, can someone do me a favor please?
What is the length of the Wu Audio Headband stand (see photo)? I am wondering about the double, I would imagine its 2x of the single if you only have a single.
I can’t seem to find the dimensions anywhere, just the base diamintor and the height is all I can find.
My educated guess would be 8" if the base is 6"
Thanks guys.
You are the man, thank you so much.
Have a great night.
How are you enjoying them off the HPA4?
Benchmark man, they make some beautiful gear. Look at that photo, great shot!
Based on my conversations with Tyler, he absolutely loves susvara and will probably sell all his ZMF headphones in the future.
