Hi and Welcome @pumpkin.
Iāve been very guilty of not greeting the new people recently. So much so that there are way more than the 10 of them that Iām permitted to list.
So Iām going to blow the whistle on my behavior and just welcome the usual suspects.
@SleepyRhythms - if it wasnāt for this Covid thing, I think Iād make a trip up there to The Source AV.
I think you can walk in to try headphones as long as youāre wearing a mask at The Source. Thereās also Upscale Audio and The Schiityr in Cali if youāre around any of these. Not sure if Upscale has demo rooms. For speakers I think they do. Iām also trying not to go out very much.
Hello and welcome @robert1
Hello,
Iāve been an audiophile a long time. Iāve posted extensively on headfi.com under the same username. This looks like a fun site. Iāll try to behave.
Agree, Covid is making it extremely difficult to do much of anything these days,. Audio shows canceled and get togetherās with groups are pretty risky unless you all have quarantined or you just flat trust the others have been diligent in protecting themselves.
Hello and welcome @saidentary and @robert1.
welcome to the community @robert1 and @saidentary
Wow, I have missed a lot of new arrivals lately!
I apologize for not welcoming you sooner and unfortunately I have lost my list with all your names on it, so please take this as a very warm welcome to all of you!!!
Hey all. I figured Iām better off asking follow up questions about reviews here rather than the YouTube comment section. Previously Iāve been active on Hifiguides until now
Welcome. This place is consciously respectful and tolerant of different opinions. We always try to answer, unless we have no interest or experience (e.g., new model <$100 fashion headphones).
Hi!
Iām pretty new to high end headphones. I bought my first pair of really nice headphones, the HD6XX with a schiit stack, last year. I was very impressed. Just blown away by how good some of my favorite music sounded. I was hearing things I hadnāt heard before. Iām talking about songs like Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin that Iāve probably listened to hundreds of times. And Iām hearing new little details and sounds ā nothing HUGE mind you ā but still kinda knocked my socks off.
Since then Iāve picked up some fantastic gear along the way and Iāve made some mistakes too. Be careful of what youtubers you get advice from and donāt get caught up in the hype.
Desktop Setup:
Schiit Jotunheim Multibit -> LCD-2C / Argons
Schiit Hel -> HD6XX with Modmic (the best video conf setup - whoās audio always works? this guy.)
Transportable Setup
Chord Mojo - I donāt have a great matching headphone for this yet. My other headphones are just a little too bulky for mobile use. Looking for something new here.
Have you tried the LCD2-C with the Mojo? I realize you donāt want that combination for transportable use but I remember the pairing being really good, better than with my Airist RDAC and Magni 3 combination (Audeze demoed the LCD2-C with the Mojo some 18 months ago at CanJam NYC).
For the transportable setup, do you need closed back? What about an IEM?
Iād like to, but I havenāt bought the adapter/cable for me to hook the LCD2C up to the mojos 3.5mm plugs. Iāve only had the mojo for 2 weeks now, so still breaking it in.
IEM seems ideal for what I need, but I donāt know the first thing about them.
You could post in the IEMs Discovery and General Discussion thread. Iām sure some of the IEM experts here like @antdroid, @prfallon69, @toranku, among others, can help you out.
The trick with IEMs is that fit and comfort are immediate and important considerations, especially given the diversity in peopleās anatomies and, more specifically, the shapes and sizes of ear canals. Those IEMs that work for some will be useless for others. Youād need to figure out which kinds of tips suit you (silicone, foam, etc.), as well as their sizes, and whether theyāre to be inserted deeply or shallowly into the ear canal.
The next issue is that there are millions of budget options under $100, almost too many to choose from, but that the range of options narrows as you go up the price scale. Given that youāre coming from the HD 6XX and have an LCD2-C, youād do well to skip over the budget ones and look for those in the $100-400 range. Strangely, there arenāt that many in the mid-fi price bracket, say $400-800, but there are many high-end contenders, especially from $1100 and up.
There are three main types of IEM driver, each with its own set of characteristics, advantages, and limitations: dynamic; balanced armature; and hybrids (typically pricier and a combination of the first two, although nowadays with other kinds as well, some of which are still new tech).
There are multiple options for sources but since youāve got the Mojo, Iād stick to that and figure out what people recommend as an IEM that has a good synergy with it.
Iād suggest starting out by posting in the general thread with info about your budget and then your sound priorities and preferences and seeing what people suggest. IEMs, as you note, could be ideal for your needs, especially when it comes to resolution and being able to discern the details in your music. Good luck!
Hello and welcome @marcgii and @Debby_Miriam.
Welcome. I enjoyed reading about your background. Very nice gear. The impact of a retiring DOJ wife on your stereo enjoyment leading you to headphone audio - is as good a reason as any that Iāve heard!
Wow, what a responsive group! This is nice. Iāve been an audiophile for a long time. I came here after finding some folks who also post on head-fi. I was going to alert folks to the amazing ZMF Verite Closed headphone, but thatās already well known around here.
Stories like those of Brian Bolton are great to read and remind me of what this hobby is supposed to be all aboutāFUN! If the responses posted by some of the members are any indication (and I think they are) then this will be an excellent site to visit and explore.
Welcome @nectarsoundnet. Hope you like it here.
