Hello everybody! A few months before this shelter-in-place thing hit, I was laid off from my job, so I was already spending more time at home and in my “home office” area. At some point it struck me: oh hey I’ve got these nice LCD-X cans and a Mojo I bought a few years back when I wanted to listen to a lot of loud music without disturbing my neighbor (I’ve since moved to a place with much better sound isolation) – maybe I should hook the Mojo up to the iMac and just start listening at my desk. And I did. Had reason to be using Roon again, digging into my digital library, appreciating music and good sound. Which led to the thought: hey, I should create a proper desktop set-up here. After trying out a Monoprice 887 (microdynamics too rounded off), a Magni 3/Modi 3 (much better transient dynamics but I wanted the bass oomph from the 887 added in), I landed where I am now, with my “big boy” Schiit stack of an Asgard 3 (dynamics AND bass!) and a Bifrost 2 (the detail, the imaging, the confidence!). These proper amps also finally gave life to my HD660S which I’d otherwise tucked away, which led me to no-brainer order the HD6XX which are now seemingly permanently attached to my head. NOW I get what people mean about a “natural” sound. Wow.

It’s already gotten worse, though: thanks to a particularly good YouTube review from a noted member of this site, I’ve now put in my order for the ZMF Verite, which I’m pretty sure will be endgame cans for me. A quarantine treat? Yes for sure. All of this is. But it’s tough to put a price on rediscovering so much music and so much joy.

Welcome David!

What a refreshing read!

Looks like you are done, with your top headphone setup and there are no further upgrades needed

Have a good time and enjoy your music!

Long time lurker, I really should have joined earlier because now I have to go through and re-read all the threads I’ve read. But it sure makes keeping up-to-date with just the latest posts easlier!

Hello all,

I see this is the place for introductions.

I’ve been wandering “midfi” for last few years and lurking. Trying, buying and selling. After all of that I’m still using my HD580 and HE500.

Just starting to wander further toward the top end with my purchase of the Borealis. Love it so far. Came here for discussion and advice. Cheers.
