“Now Playing”

35 years ago today, Indigo Girls released their classic eponymous album, one of my favorite albums of all-time. If nothing else, you probably know “Closer to Fine”.

On the eve of CanJam NYC 2024, may I recommend this for a uniquely trippy listening experience, especially on planars. It kinda sounds exactly like the image suggests it will.

You know how you sometimes pick up something that you haven’t used in a while? It even sounds trippy on my UE Fits wireless IEMs. Sound is upper mid fi, but oh so comfortable.

What’s in that picture? Football, some old audio thing – tape? Tube tester? Doesn’t look like a portable phono. Cheese selection. Remnants of something liquorholic… .

Just 1s and 0s. Unfortunately they never get any better :smirk:

Just “wasted” a couple of hours watching reaction videos on You Tube. Hard to believe but there are reactors that have never heard Janis Joplin, or Pink Floyd doing Comfortably Numb. Never heard the Doors - Riders On the Storm. And Procol Harum’s Whiter Shade of Pale … “What’s a miller? I think it might be something on a ship…” ROTFL.

But some of the people are very sharp - I love the classical harpist/pianist as she analyzes new territory. Probably has perfect pitch - she’ll listen and illustrates what she gleans in real time.

Others just get wowed or cry. I cried when Janis died, her singing put me in a different state.

lol That whole “reacting to” thing went viral and then everyone started labeling their videos with that for really insipid nonsense. Although I do bet a good portion of gen z has never heard Janis Joplin or Pink Floyd…or a really good headphone. These are things that only old men, with the wisdom & privilege of age, appreciate.

Roger that. The one Janis reactor was rocking Beats. I excuse the lack of Janis on youth and a Jamaican background. I hope she knows Peter Tosh.

One of my favorite records. And its companion, Time Further Out. I actually saw them do this live in a relatively small venue when I was probably 13 or 14. The first actual concert I remember.

Quite honestly, I think, the most beautiful recording I’ve ever heard.

I don’t know if I’d go quite that far, but I can say

Golden ratio - Wikipedia

BT, the producer, is famously a math genius who is inspired by mathematical perfection.

That’s irrational.

That KOAN Sound track @chrisnyc75 linked has got me on an electronic kick. Joris Delacroix’s track “Aiguilhe” gets real trippy at ~2:45 or so:

I can spend several hours just shuffling between Louis Cole, Anomalie, Kiefer, Anatole Muster, etc. and not get bored. The latter is xenharmonic/31-edo stuff that’s just really cool to listen to, but I feel like it requires a bit of brain burn-in to listen for longer sessions.

This George Michael track is one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s a standard “demo track” that I have listened to on every device/chain I’ve ever auditioned or owned. I have listened to it literally thousands of times on everything from Bose to Focal and everything in between, and it sounds definitively better on Susvara than anything else. That imaging tho… :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
