OFF-TOPIC: Photography Showcase/Show-off

I really like this last picture @Jaethan, well all of them, but especially the last one. It is a warm picture despite the winter vegetation and snow. And directly into the sun without ghosts, the 23mm handled the backlight really well. And you got the picture! As your child becomes a teenager, like mine, there is no camera or lens that can save such moments for you. Get more of these as you can and they are willing. That is an epic portrait IMO.

Thank you so much for those kind words, Mark! I’ll be putting up one photo per day, and almost all of them are black and white; I did most of my work in Tri-X back then…

I love the smell of hypo in the morning!

You’re very kind! :relaxed:. This is the first “real” camera I’ve had in a long time, and I’m still figuring it out, but without it I would have missed out on lots of moments. Thanks for the encouragement!

Just realized I hadn’t put up any more concert snapshots for a few days… Here is one of Debbie Harry with Blondie in San Francisco on March 3, 1977…

Here is the oldest one I have, from about 1970, of Jorma Kaukonen, guitarist/vocalist for Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna; this was a free concert in the park at ‘P Street Beach’ in DC…

Actually elated to have stumbled upon this thread, photography is definitely my other passion! I recently got an A7C and I’ve been playing with the Batis 40 f2, the Sigma 45 f2.8 and the Sigma 85 1.4. I’d really like to work on portraits, but right now all I have is my GF to work with on that front haha:

Otherwise, my main fare is street photography, which is convenient living in NYC. I’ve been trying to take advantage of all the snow we’re getting, as well as the deserted/“decay” vibes we have going on with COVID:

If I’m honest, my dad is the photographer in my family, I’m very much still trying to learn and figure out my style. But it’s fun, and I love a good gear chase.

Nice photos though! Quite well done!

Believe it or not she eats more than I do half the time haha. One of us clearly got the better metabolism!

Thanks for the kind words on the photography front. Half the time I’m trying to decide if I even like it myself, so it’s always nice to hear that I might be on the right track haha

And an Iguana (?) from Florida …

I really appreciate the before and after. I’m probably in the minority but I’m not a big fan of post-processing, especially oversaturated color.

Interesting photo I took in the fog of a large flock of Sand Hill Cranes, surprised it came out at all.

That has ultra-low contrast! Was the lighting or aperture setting off? I’d think you might be able to cut through fog, but I may be wrong. It has an artistic character, but may also be tweakable.

major fog. That’s it. Sun behind my back. You can’t tweak something that doesn’t have the detail to tweak. :grinning: I can fake it and go into file in photoshop and adjust the gamma and bring out some more detail but its not how I saw the picture. If I would have had my D850 and my 500 f4 maybe I could have sucked in some more light. I just thought it was interesting,

I like the photo. If you had had your D850 and 500/4, you’d also have a back ache.
