Nice is that the JVC 10K?

A bit of fun, Ha!! This works sufficiently for walking around and listening to the radio in the house.

I was allowed back to my office on Monday but haven’t brought any gear back yet, so this is what I have been using (excuse the crappy pic).

I must say that I am actually enjoying it so far…

That iPod was the predecessor to the Apple Watch, very cool.

I’m surprised it can push those Audeze’s. :frowning:

It can push them surprisingly loud.

Nice…how do you find the JVC relative to the Vega or the (I assume) Acoustune?

Iphone SE + Sony XBA N3 = awesome combo!!

Will have to first clarify that the CA you see there is actually a Lyra II which I picked up when it was first released in early 2017.

I find the FW10K extremely spacious in sound stage, particularly in terns of width, contrary to its FW predecessors it is more upper mid range focused rather than bassy and warm. Compared to the Lyra II and the HS1650 there is less bass quantity, however it produces richer bass texture and detail. Within the mid range is where we find the female vocals which I fell in love with the FW10K, more specifically it is listening to 90’s Sarah Mclachlan. At the time I was contemplating between the Solaris and FW10K, when comparing I found her voice full yet ethereal at the same time.

Out of the 4 dynamic drivers shown, the HS1650 has the ‘funnist’ bass, it has pushes most air for feeling of impact, yet manages to avoid mid-bass bloat. Detail retrieval as expected is behind the JVC and ahead of the Lyra II. The treble while exciting, it is not as fatiguing as the Lyra II and it comes in second for its presentation of space and air after the FW10K.

Alas the Lyra II is warm overall but its treble can be peaky depending on ear tips and wearing position. For me it sounds best with a deep insertion with comply foam, but starts to get irritating / itchy after an hour. If I try to wear it for comfort it would be a shallow fit with Acoustune AET09.

The most overlooked aspect of the Lyra II is it’s build quality, the PVD ‘liquid metal’ finish seems near indestructible. Whereas I have to baby and take special care when handling the FW10K wanting to maintain the wooden shell in good condition, the HS1650 already showing signs of wear from a year of use, the Lyra II looks pretty much as new as the day I un-boxed it with little to no effort in care. Thus it is because of its durability that I have pretty much given the Lyra II to my wife when she wants better sound than her Libratone Track Air (which are actually very nice sounding for TWS IEMs).

Apologies for rambling…

Thanks for sharing man. I’ve cycled through many of the great TOTL IEMs on the market right now but the JVC always eluded me. I hope I get to hear one for myself some day.

The nicer JVC IEMs for the most part seems very rare outside of Eastern Asia, though I am sure there might be someone in hong-couver that owns it…

I have seen your IEM posts over the year, indeed you have cycled through most of the TOTLs in rapid succession.

PAW6000 ->FIIO L17->KSE1200->Acoustune AET08 ( modified with Shure Olive foam tip core inside)

The best balance I have been able to achive for the KSE1200 balancing technical performance, musicality, and decent portability*.
Next upgrade I would be looking into getting a nicer jumper cable, but ts not easy finding dual right angle interconnects.

Anybody with suggestions for solutions under 100 USD?

*More so transportable than portable, still looking for a nice holster that can fit this stack.

Mmmmm sweet. Would love some KSE1200/1500’s.

My endgame ticket to portable paradise-- after scouring the earth high and low for a portable rig to best meet my needs I’ve landed on: Cayin n6ii + E01 => CFA Solaris SE (with stock cable), EE Legend X + EA Thor II, Large Azla Sedna Eartips, Dignis Arca Case and a lovely Empire Strikes Back tin of backup eartips. Time to settle down for a bit.

Magnificent setup. Do you have the Azla Sedna Eartips on both IEMs? If so, I assume they work well with the Solaris - some impressions of them with these two specific IEMs would be most welcome, if you wouldn’t mind, please?

(And, off-topic quickly: I love the tin; I’ve been looking for something for my tips, and I just picked up a set of six Empire tins off eBay. Thanks!!!)

I actually found the tin at a street market in Brooklyn last summer…it works perfectly, and even fits nicely in the Arca with both IEMs.

Yes I uses Sednas on both-- they have a really tight grip, which is great for IEMs like the LX (and also the u12t) which have a really slick bore. These are the regular long sednas. I have some regular short and light short coming in the mail to try (I seem to collect tips).

I’ve never noticed differences in sound sufficiently with tips to be able to comment on that aspect but the Sednas are wide bore (which I like) and fit me really well. They’re very similar overall to Spiral Dots, which were my previous favorite, however they are slightly different in shape and I find the Sednas the most comfortable of all the tips I’ve tried. They hold a great seal and I can wear them almost indefinitely without discomfort…something true of no other tip I’ve tried.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about the Sednas, I really appreciate it. I’m keen to try them because I’ve not been having much success with other tips when auditioning several potential IEMs for future upgrades (including the Solaris!), and I don’t want to rule out excellent IEMs simply because I couldn’t get the right fit. Comfort is key, too, so it’s good to hear this. I also like the Sednas for having a decent selection of sizes - ML and L, for instance - as well as the short and long as well as light versions. Too bad they don’t offer variety packs… Thanks again.
