The song is not a parody. It’s a real, legit Bollywood production. My Indian friends in the past were either outraged or reduced to helpless puddles of laughter, depending.
Its an example of what can happen when someone (albeit someone with a perverse sense of humor) tries to write down the lyrics as they hear them. It’s just a bit of language miscommunication…
Did the Bollywood producers go after Buffalax? no. If the situation were different, say a song in a Disney movie with a bunch of silly Hindi titles written over it? Would Disney sue? You betcha.
You know more about it than I do. I don’t think the Buffalax version is the original version of the song though. So perhaps it could be viewed as a parody… Maybe.
Disney could also sue over a parody of one of their songs, but that doesn’t mean they’d win the suit.
An example or two of some rock lyrics that work for me.
Alice Cooper’s version of “Hello Hooray”. This was originally penned by a Canadian songwriter named Rolf Kempf, and was not the first recording of the song. It is a simple, direct, impassioned, testimonial of an artist’s feeling performing before an audience on stage.
Brian May’s “White Queen”, performed by Queen.
Squeeze’s “Pulling Mussels”, written by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook.
George Harrison was one of the best rock composers I know of. And he was also a pretty good wordsmith. A few examples of his work, sung by his friends and himself.
This last one was co-written by George and Bob Dylan.
Siouxsie and the Banshees “Christine” and “Happy House”, both penned by Siouxsie Sioux and Steven Severin of the Banshees.
I’m not sure if I consider Meat Loaf a great writer. But the imagery and repeated riffs in this are simple and effective. And they get the point across. Sometimes less is more, or at least… enough. And a little kitch or camp doesn’t hurt either.
Certainly some poetry in this track by Bauhaus’s Peter Murphy. It is one of my favorite rock ballads.
A different kind of poetry, but still effective. Morrison and The Doors were an early influence on Iggy and the Stooges.
Wow! You have that much faith in forked-tongue snakes and vipers!?! Opinions are like a**holes - everyone has one and they usually stink.
Attorneys routinely make wild, off-the-wall claims because they are trying to take money or freedom from someone else. Some have earned a reputation for being “ambulance chasers,” “patent trolls,” those who cover up their own errors at the expense of innocent people, and exploiters of loopholes. This is why the world has general laws created by elected officials or monarchs, and why there are judges to serve as referees in disputes. Lawyers on opposite sides sling stones at each other…but 50% are wrong and must lose any given legal case.
Some lawyers are great and some are evil. Some have opposing views regarding copyright laws and enforcement. Which of these opinions should you trust? Are all the “good” lawyers pro enforcement? Hmmm?
It seems fairly clear from your comments above that you’ve had some bad run-ins with lawyers in the past. And probably have a rather dim view of the profession in general.
If that is the case, I’m sincerely sorry about it. And doubt there’s anything I could say here that might change your mind or make you feel any better about it.
No. Not at all. You continue to wander off topic and ignore how you got to this point – see your many copyright posts above (and quoted below). This will be my last post on this topic to you, as there’s no point in continuing with this randomness.
Despite self-professed ignorance of the law you took a specific position about attorneys and follow Erin M. Jacobson. So what? Attorneys typically are either (1) mouthpieces for clients who hold some random viewpoint, or (2) seeking to enforce a law (in a way that ultimately results in a personal payday). That’s how they get paid. That’s the entire profession. Legal advocacy and interpretation. Some attorneys are good, some are bad, and some are neutral.
So you are not an attorney but play one on TV? And you offer legal opinions…
Then why did you make the allegations above, and with such certainty? No knowledge but “I don’t see much wiggle room”…
