Rosson Audio - RAD-0 - Official Thread

Haha honored that my slap dash attempt at being clever even reached their attention! I read up some more on Aeolus and it does seem to be my jam. Methinks an order will be placed fairly soon! That LTD cocobolo looks tasty!

I’ve had a great experience working with the Rosson Audio team over the last few months - I’m in the process of getting a custom pair made based off of Basquiat’s ā€œTrumpetā€ piece. Here are the two ring designs I’m choosing from:

Option 1:

Option 2:

I’m leaning hard towards Option 2, but figured I’d see what you guys thought as I slept on it!

Those are very nice. I actually prefer option 1 myself.

Congratulations on the new purchase. I’m sure whatever you decide on will be good.

Cheers!

I love them both! I definitely think I’d be happy with either one. Set 1 I like because the colors have a watercolor look to them and they have the splashes of white, while Set 2 has that beautiful metallic green and a glassy look.

I agree, they both look good, so it depends on what effect you’re going for. The first set is a little cleaner and looks like it’s been cut out of marble, whereas the second set looks like it’s been fashioned out of a meld of different metallic ores.

I’m not going to tell you which I prefer because you’ll be the one wearing them (and anyway, they both look beautiful) but I wanted to thank you for posting this because the RAD-0 is on my radar for a possible 2021 purchase and this has helped me figure out which coloring style I prefer,

@parmiep beauties! They are both awesome. I also love the look and sound from the Rad-0 and will be getting a pair as well.

I think Option #2 more closely matches the original artwork.

I searched for Basquiat’s ā€œTrumpetā€

I prefer the boldness and pop of Option 2. Custom aspect of these is a cool feature!

  1. You’re welcome, I think their custom offering is super interesting and they’re so nice and pleasant to work with that I encourage anyone who is interested in a pair to strongly consider it! One note I’ll make on the custom process - be super descriptive of what you’re looking for in your set. The resin coloring process is obviously very hard to control, but I’ve learned through iterating that having a clear sense of colors, ratio of said colors, color style (marble vs. glassy) and how much or little you want the colors mixed all makes a big difference.

  2. I’m glad you said that re: marble vs. minerals. While I love the milky/marble aspect of #1, there’s almost a jewel-like quality to #2 because of the metallic/glassy character which is really interesting to me.

I think Option #2 more closely matches the original artwork. I searched for Basquiat’s ā€œTrumpetā€

@generic that’s the one!

In any case, Red on the Right.

I’m personally a fan of the first option. Something that’s hard to see until you actually have them in your hands is how the cups actually look outside of a photo. When the cups are hit by natural light or in good lighting they really shine so the brighter colours on 1 would look jaw-dropping.

But both are great pieces and it would be hard to go wrong with either / or

Buy both, problem solved!

One for Mon, Wed, Fri, the other pair for Tues, Thu, Sat, Sun or something like that. Or one for location one and the other location two.

Honestly, if I hadn’t also bought a Verite C LTD I might have considered it haha. I know many of you have multiples colors/woods of headphones you like, I could (sort of, not really) justify having many Rad-0s if they all turn out looking amazing through the custom process!

I’m a planar lover & badly wanted to hear these headphones. I had them on my head a minute or two at CanJam NYC 2/19 and it was instantly apparent I would never make it with the fit & comfort. That big downward-facing bump of a headband cushion is an immediate rule-out. I have a big head to begin with…that just won’t work.

It’s too bad because if this had a normal headband and fit I would have to look at it very seriously. I’ve heard the H8000 (original) and owned/sold the Empyrean. IMO the path is still wide open for more endgame planars.

I have some Dekoni nuggets waiting for my Rad-0s in the hopes that will address it, but also ready to pull the trigger on a ZMF Pilot or Co-Pilot pad if need be.

I have a Pilot Pad on my Ori that I bought new from ZMF 3.5 yrs ago. It’s a wonderful product, very comfortable, but I doubt it will do much here–the bulk of the padding of the PP is between the user’s head & the headband…in effect, just adding to that prominence of that RAD-0 headband cushion.

Co-pilot pad doesn’t work all that great with the RAD-0… it is doable but, not very good looking ha…

Pilot pad is slightly better but, doesn’t fit all that great either… both add a lot of extra padding which is nice though…

@MRHifiReviews thanks for this  we sized it down to 10mb for easier sharing ha!
