Yuup, I brought my own cans. Pre C19, they’d have cans available to use. It’s a retail store but with limited inventory as most of their stock is sold online. Here’s a link with some info
Thanks for sharing the experience!!
Its not amazing to me that you prefer the Vahalla 2 with high impedance headphones…many time I have mentioned the HD 6xx series and HD8xx series are a magical pariing with the V2…and the B2.
Low impedance planars with the V2 is not the best pairing due to the design of the amp…it works but…
But the Lyr is wonderful for many, many headphones that are under 100 ohms etc…focal’s, grados etc
The Crack with speedball is right up there with the V2 IMO…its only a matter of cosmetics, building, more tube swapping if thats your thing…and as Doc at BH would tell you “its the circuit stupid!!” lol
Thanks for sharing!!
Alex
I had remembered your favorable impressions of the V2 with your HD600s, and now I can better/absolutely relate! I agree that the Lyr is an excellent amp.
I’ve tracked how you chose to keep the Crack with SB, and how you no longer have a V2. Decisions. It’s likely that I pay a professional amp builder if I were to go the Crack with SB route, which would cost around $700 total for the amp and build, before any cosmetic finishes and caps and pots upgrades. The V2 brand new is $350, $300 off B-stock. And within this price range is the Feliks Echo for $680 new.
If I were “you” I would buy the B stock Vahalla 2 and be very happy…
Sage advice, thanks. TBD.
Yup…but as soon as you hit the buy button, human nature will kick in and wonder if you should have bought the Felks!!!
:>)
Be happy with the V2!!
Ain’t that the truth! Must maintain discipline
I have worked with Jason at Schiit on some endeavors. I sent him a selection of 6sn7 tubes for blind testing in Sagas. I mounted the tubes in PVC and built identical octal extensions for each so even the tube bases were identical.
I built all cables and a couple of splitters for the application. I own in excess of 1,000 6sn7 and equivalent tubes including most single triode versions.
I also did some early work with the Schiit Coaster amp which Jason acknowledged in one of his chapters. It was fun trying to mount a round PC board into some kind of cabinet.
What were he results of the blind testing??
Alex
Does this mean Saga S and Freya S didn’t survive the Thunderdome?
Correct.
Glad I got a Freya S. It’s very good.
Nice and I think I noticed you having one. I’m monitoring what goes on sale in the various places since Freya + is on back-order until October. I heard the Freya + at The Schiitr - all 3 modes were enjoyable, especially the tube mode.
damn I meant to pic up a Freya S this week too!!! FCUK!!!
Sorry man. Maybe one will show up on the used market?
yeah… I had one in my cart last week, and just never hit purchase… got sidetracked…
oh well…
Send them an email. See if they have any remaining stock. It might work
As I recall the Black glass Ken-rad VT-231 did quite well in addition to the RCA grey glass from 1942 and a Melz 1578. Other results were pretty mixed. Jason made mention that the Saga used the tubes as a buffer so it was not the best test. After that I decided to design my own amps that might give better indications. Thus the Incubus Elegan was born.
I bought a couple Freya + but then I tube roll, I gave one to my son but he has been so busy he has not so much as opened it. I may be able to help out on an S, I will make a couple inquiries later today.
Yeah… I really want the Freya+ but want it in black… but, I have a feeling that will not happen =) plus the Freya S is very versatile so would be a good thing to have in my different chains…
Because of space and layout limitations (which is a big part of why I got into HP’s) I went with a tube integrated amp, book shelf speakers on stands and small self powered subs for my 2 channel setup. Otherwise I would have jumped on both Freya’s with a separate power amp(s). Just based on my enjoyment of Ragnarok 1 with phones and the book shelf’s it would have been the kind of audio bliss I live for in a long term listening comparison.
