It’s finally out!
It’s an intriguing design, and I have no doubt they hit it out of the park as they always do. I’m disappointed by the lack of I2S connectivity and the inability to transport the DSD layer of a SACD, though. I asked in the live stream release video why they didn’t include that and Jason basically said “because we didn’t want to”. I think that was an opportunity missed.
I understand they sold as many in the first day of release as they expected to sell in the first MONTH, though, so it seems like a homerun anyway!
Agreed, I might have considered it, but not at this price and CD only. But his thought process makes sense internally for Schiit given that his dacs are PCM only, but it would have been nice.
Wow, that’s really impressive! I had heard it would be a “limited release” like Folkvangr and the upcoming MJ3, I wonder if they will rethink production quantities. I can’t imagine they’d leave money on the table, especially these days…
Jason has confirmed in recent days that it is intended to be an “ongoing product”, though probably with limited capacity between runs.
Oh, that’s very cool. Perfect for people who want to jump in between their CD collection and PC.
I don’t have any CDs at this time otherwise I’d consider getting it.
Companies are having a real hard time managing stock - see the new partnership between Schiit and Dan Clark Audio as an example of companies trying very new things to offload stock … Jotenheim 2 is a fantastic little amp and it works great with DCA headphones in my experience, so well I’m wondering what m3 brings to the table?
Both are interesting, and a decision on the MJ3 will have to wait until I’m back from South Korean (I fly out tomorrow). I look forward to reading reviews and hopefully a comparison against the MJ1.
Regards,
Vic
Both only available in black
Mjolnir 3 looks very interesting. It also looks like a reaction to and upgrade to the RebelAmp – this edition departs from prior Mjolnirs as a Class A balanced dual-mono. As with the RebelAmp it comes across as pushing sound quality through overkill: Weight of 16 Lbs as it produces 2 Watts RMS (32 ohm) per channel. That’s just a fraction of my Lyr 3’s power, but a ton of power for headphones.
I picked one up. I wanna see how it does with my headphones and do a little comparison vs the bliss. I understand it wont have the power of the bliss but I dont need the power necessarily.
So you can feel the power. Literally. When I turn on the amp you can feel the vibration. Is this normal with some more powerful Schiit products (speaker amps)?
Initial listen with HD800S is pretty good. Obviously need more time and for it to warm up but it’s not terrible. I think I prefer class A push-pull off the bat. And no feedback. Very analog feeling and actually pulling some good micro detail.
That’s pretty crazy! (the chokes vibrating) You learn something new everyday!
The amp looks good in your rack, it slotted in there nicely. Is there enough room there for proper heat dissipation? I guess you’ll find out, but it’s a beast and will probably put out a ton of heat.
It probably likes to be on top, so to speak. When I was considering one I planned on it having nothing covering its heat sinks at all.
I’ll be interested what you think after it burns in and you have some time with it. I’d also be curious if it vibrates less with time on and/or burn in.
Hope you like it!
With that angle it looks closer to the top than it is. There’s plenty of room. The bliss gets hot too after some time so it’s not a big deal to me. This gets a little hotter sooner but we’ll see how it does over time. I doubt the vibrations will change, just the chokes doing their thing.
Maybe it’s just FOMO, but I couldn’t help ordering a Mjolnir 3 today after thinking it over all week. I like tinkering and there’s too many things to play with on this amp to not have one.
I guess I’m gonna have to wait a few more months before I get those estats I’ve been eyeing.
Happy real cake day!
That’s a nice birthday gift to self
I hope you like it, I’ll be interested what you think also.
I feel that, I seriously thought about this amp knowing it was coming. I went in a different direction in the end, with the Nitsch DSHA-3FN instead! Different beasts with the same goal, great sound!
Enjoy, happy birthday.
Yeah the FOMO is strong with the Mj3. I’ve been fighting it off myself. If it were closer to my bday it may have given me the nudge to go for it.(not that I can’t conjure an excuse to buy more gear at any given moment)
Congrats and Happy B-Day!!
Happy Birthday AudioTool!
Thanks everyone!
The day of the year was also partly responsible for this purchase
