Doubtful. It may be the mass-market version of your electric grill amp.
I may get one in the next couple of months.
Anyone see this? New flagship dac? Looks cool. Im planning to get a gumby 2 which should be sufficient, but these lower bit type DAC’s are interesting.
I kinda wish they had an headphone amp that went above the mjolinr to match the yggy line.
Saw it. Saw the prices. Decided Gungnir 2 was good enough for me.
I read the blurb. Have the Eufonika at work. And the Lyr3 at home. Do you think it would be an upgrade, sidegrade, or complement to the Lyr?
That leaves the house in state college. Using the Sabaj there. Could use that in DAC mode with the V3, but it’s a limited use case.
The Valhalla 3 seems to be a versatile tweaker’s amp made for a $500 budget. Impedance multiplier. No feedback option. Analog headphone protection system. It seems many different types of headphones should work with it. The FAQ indeed describes it as a budget/mainstream Folkvangr (@AudioTool).
Valhalla 3 sounds a bit like Folkvangr.
It is. Folkvangr, an insane 10-tube special edition amp we made a few years back, was the proving ground for Valhalla 3. Folkvangr has been a good, solid amp; now we’re bringing those ideas to a more desktop-friendly and more wallet-friendly amp.
…
Bottom line, we make both highly-capable, completely-neutral-by-the-measurements, inexpensive solid state amps, and wacky tube and tube hybrid amps. Why? Because some people like solid state, and some people like tubes. You know, like some people like Camrys and some like Corvettes. Like some people like Budweiser, and some people like Bordeaux. Amazing thing, the world, full of so many different experiences and so many different opinions of them. Is one right, and another wrong? If so, who is the arbiter? Bottom line, if you don’t agree with our approach, there are tons of other options out there. Have fun, and we hope you find one that fits your desires perfectly.
Yes I read everything on the Schiit site when I got their email. I was curious about your thinking of it in place of - or alongside my Lyr 3. I generally use the LSSST in the Lyr. It’s convenient, and I save my expensive tubes. But it does sound nice with the PSVANE. As a hybrid, it’s less tubey. It has plenty of power, and it’s not fussy about impedance. It’s usually driving the Rosson RAD-0, but occasionally everything from the GRADO RS1e to Hifiman HE-560 to the Sennheiser Momentum 4 on wires. The ZMFs live at work.
Nothing high impedance in that lot. But if/when I get the itch again, I could easily go Sennheiser 800S or another ZMF.
I already have some of the roller tubes from my Eufonika.
The old Vahalla had a reputation for being clean and lean, and I suspected that it sounded like LTA amps. I’ve never heard the Folkvangr, so @AudioTool surely has a better sense of the V3’s profile.
I’m content with my Decware for focused listening, and split my time between it and my AirPods Pro these days. If I set up an office system I’d use either the Lyr 3 or old ZenDAC (as less of a loss if it walked off or was damaged by others).
I have a Lyr+. It is as you say about the Lyr 3. No issues powering fairly demanding planars like my non-hybrid tube amps. But it also doesn’t add as much to the sound as the Folkvangr does.
When I visited the Schittr my goal was to try out and possibly purchase the Valhalla 2. I already had the Lyr+ and I wanted to see what a Schitt OTL tube amp sounds like in comparison. I demoed everything with my Sennheiser HD800S. Well I didn’t really like the Valhalla 2 that much. My memory of it was that it was not clean enough for my taste. I thought the Folkvangr was amazing, though. So I ordered one when I got back home despite the much higher price.
The Folkvangr doesn’t do much with planars. But I’ve run low impedance dynamics like the OG Focal Clear and ZMF Bokeh from it with good results. It really excels with the HD800S though.
If the Valhalla 3 sounds similar to the Folkvangr (and it should), then I would think it would be a good amp to try if you have a Lyr and want to try something more tubey without giving up too much clarity.
I hopefully have both the Valhalla 3 and Mimir being delivered tomorrow.
