Schiit Jotunheim - Headphone Amplifier - Official Thread

When I was testing some of my comments I wrote down:

Subjectively its definitely "more open. "Clearer less Jot like…: many folks think the J1 is warm…the new J2 is definitely less warm to my ears.

Love the 4 leds internally, nice amber glow and there is still the power on led that I like as well.

Out of all the amps I have the balanced out with the HEDDs is near perfect in overall soundstage, musicality, great slam, very 3 dimensional. Bass slam…excellent control with harder to drive cans…more than enough power etc…

The end game is I should send back the Lyr3, Asgard 3, the Jot 1, Magnius, Vahalla 2, etc and sell all my other crap and just be VERY happy with this amp. (I love the Lyr 3, the A3 is ok, The Vahalla 2 with the Senns and Beyers .)…

The amp has "tube’ish like traits, not harsh or too warm…somewhere in between a SS amp and a Tube amp sound…yet very clear and distinct, dead silent. A silky smooth volume pot, first class feel.

It also drove the Hifi man Susvaras exteremley well…no need for a speaker amp!

The experience with the HEDDs comes alive and sounds like speakers hanging off my ears…like the SR1a’s…in that direction.

Diana Krall vocals are perfect…tone etc. Very well balanced amp.

Case is mildly warm to the touch…after 1 hour on. Measured temp on bottom of case sitting on top of J1 (off) and its 83 deg F in a warm room". AC off. Probe stuck in top vent hole right side 1/4" 90 deg F. Top outside case on the Schiit logo 80 def F. This is a great selling point…based on past Schiit amps running warmer…this is a big deal for some

This might be the “one amp” to rule them all!! Hobbitsville!

Low gain has more feedback, like most amps. Nothing super special there

It’s Class AB, with Continuity S to improve performance.

Log Pot…Alps 15A taper.

DC coupled all the way!

the pre-outs are for speaker power amps or powered speakers.

Immediate difference noticed that the amp drives most anything with ease. Insanely powerful amp for $399.

Thanks for your impressions. Cart loaded jk. It seems like the updated Jot, Vali, and Asgard all share the quality of being less warm.

Awesome !! How is the single ended output?? Not much difference from Magnius in numbers, what about sound?

J2 has more grunt…soundwise I dont have the Magnius here for a direct comparison is sound…

Thanks Alex. I just upgraded to 2 day delivery.

This is exactly what I was looking for: a solid state amp that can power anything but I can also hook up to my powered monitors. Having a pre-amp switch means that I can connect my BF2 to the J2 using XLR and to my single-ended amps using RCA, and I can decide when I want the speakers to be active.

I like your style. USPS or Fedex, during this time of year? That is the question.

Definitely Fedex for me. I’ve had too many issues with USPS over the last few months. Or at least perceived issues, based on looking at the tracking status.

There was one item that was mailed in Texas, made it all the way to the distribution center in Illinois, and then went all the way back to Texas, where it sat for a couple of days before coming back to Illinois again. Maybe it was actually in Texas the whole time and the status was wrong. I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than it getting almost to my doorstep and then going back again.

Oh my, that sounds problematic. News reports seem to indicate that USPS is backed up with holiday deliveries. I do live 30 minutes from Schiit and could pick it up on Saturday guaranteed (presumably). Risk-reward matrix tells me not to gamble for the sake of convenience.

Everything else at Jotunheim 2’s price point is simply another IC-based amp. Nothing wrong with that—we do that in Magnius, at $199—but it isn’t an all-out assault on making the best possible product for your desktop.

The results? Jotunheim 2 now does 7.2W RMS into 32 ohms at 1% THD, up from 5W on the Jotunheim. (We rate it a bit less at 6W RMS, because that’s how we do things around here.)

Just love it!

I agree. I like some of the newer amps that have the black knob.

Same here, I cannot stand it!

I JUST ordered an A90 because of this very feature! I had no idea the Jot2 was coming out or I would have waited. I’m going to hang with the A90 as it also has a 4.4 Balanced out so I can use the same cable I us for the WA11. Still would have sprung for the Jot if I’d known!

If y’all could do me a favor and not hype this up too much, my wallet would appreciate it. Thanks.

Does anyone have a $2400 SS amp ready to compare with their Jot 2? I wonder which amp Jason had in mind when he made that statement.

Well you can send them a note and ask?

Are we able to identify based on the following criteria from the product FAQ page?

So this “best $2400 amp for $400” is a bit of hype, isn’t it?
Hmm, well, you look some of the big-dollar amps and let us know.

I’d prefer a less smartass answer, please.
Gotcha. But please have a look at what’s available that is (a) really truly balanced, (b) fully discrete, © using parts like Alps RK27114 “Blue Velvet” potentiometers (d) has a 100% internal, 100% linear power supply, (e) has insane attention paid to parts quality, including using matched parts throughout—in the input, voltage gain, and output stages, (f) provides tons of power for hard-to-drive headphones AND is super-quiet for the most sensitive IEMs. We think you’ll find there isn’t much out there.
