If you want to run cable across the room, down the hall, and into the amp in the next room to the left, use balanced.
Otherwise, it’s debatable.
Given they want the Raal to be used for mobile monitoring, probably there for pro gear.

I presume, given the speed, no dac? Ordered mine, plus internal dac, Tuesday, about 9:00 am West coast time, and haven’t received shipping (to Toronto):confirmation yet.
I know sales were, shall we say, rather brisk (“Holy moly!” was the phrase actually used).
There will have been some number of units all tested (some with, some without, DAC cards already installed), boxed up and ready to go - which would be the units that were ordered first and likely had specified next or 2nd day delivery.
And then there will be units for which the parts are in-stock, but needed to be assembled, tested, and then packaged. And given how many people I’ve talked to about this in the last few months, I wouldn’t be surprised if by 9 AM orders were already into this part of the stock.
Though in this 2nd case, adding the DAC card is about a minutes work.
In some cases the power out is more when using the balanced output. Whether this matters is like @ProfFalkin says: it’s debatable !
For interconnects, while proper balanced connections should be operating with double the potential difference (V p-p) of a single-ended connection, there’s no real “power” involved here, as the impedance of the inputs into the amplifier are usually rather high (50,000 ohms for the Jotunheim R).
You will get a higher-level signal which will require less gain (or more attenuation) in the amplifier your’e feeding, however.
But, as @ProfFalkin says, the principal benefit of balanced interconnections is principally in their ability to reject noise in long cable runs.
Balanced headphone drive has different benefits (including potentially 4x the power), such as reduced cross-talk (which improves stereo imaging/separation and usually results in low level details/micro-dynamics being more audible) but that does not require balanced inputs to achieve.

I’ve used both balanced and SE for comparisons the last 4 years and that my take as well.
Got mine in last night and left it running. I’ll listen to it for the first time later today. FedEX standard overnight is a blessing in my area. UPS not so much and forget about USPS - they lose more packages than they deliver!
Thanks again Ian for the drop alert!
You got that right! They’re terrible in my area too
…And nobody at USPS seems to be accountable when that happens!
Do what I did. Send your Congressman a letter of sessation declaring that your property, to be formally called MrCyprusonia henceforth, is withdrawing from the US and is now a sovereign nation, that you’ve notified the United Nations of their crimes and are seeking a binding resolution for aid as well as political and economic sanctions against the US, then include a declaration of war and list of grievances against the USPS demanding your package be delivered.
It’s funny and effective (until the Army parks a tank on your doorstep, that is…).
Oh, and if they send a negotiator, tell them you won’t discuss anything until they have applied for a Visa for entrance to your Kingdom.
F maritime law.
HahahahHa now that’s funny! They’ll probably send their latest and greatest tank and use the MrCyprusonia Kingdom as a testing ground, but if they decide to be nice enough to keep me alive, I’m afraid that would be my official ticket out of the US for good as I’m not originally from here, specially now, with the current administration and their immigration policies!
That’s why you should immediately seek aid from Falkintopia. My Kingdom is a safe harbor.
Sorry, I have a bad habit of derailing threads.
I’m going to seek asylum for myself and my entire tribe in Falkintopia! Hahahaha
Back to topic, the JotR is impressive indeed, the bottom end is tighter and more “robust”. The refinement from the Performer s800 is not there but the JotR punches really hard with authority! Congratulations to @schiit for such an amazing product with an even more impressive r&d to production timeframe at a reasonable cost.
I love Colorado. If I’m ever granted a visa, I’d maybe visit Falkintopia the next time I’m there.

I don’t know about the USA, but I know that in Canada certain areas have declared themselves to be independent states for various reasons, like unsatisfactory municipal transportaion and garbage collection (!) services. One such was a part of Toronto. I think it may be technically legal, but bureaucratically dauntingly complex, when it comes to the likes of pensions, trade, currency, policing, visas, etc, etc, and that’s why they quietly faded into the sunset.
I toyed with the idea of purchasing a surplus aircraft carrier from the Canadian government back in around 1970 and, with a couple of hundred accomplices, taking it out to international waters and declaring it an independent mobile state, just to test the system. The flight deck was going to be the farm… Aaah, those heady days!
Sorry for the further diversion from topic.
Haha, No worries. We’ll steer this ship back on course.
Head over here to introduce yourself.
I didn’t remember seeing this posted.
