The Anime Thread

That would be nice but I think that the manga is way too iconic that studios wouldn’t be up for the challenge.

Fair enough

This here reminded me of Darling in the franxx. Hilarious how they go about operating their mechas.

Yup, looks like it.
Damn, looks like the source I go to hasn’t updated some chapters so I missed some!

Yeah, it’s confirmed

Once you know that Mob and OPM are from the same guy you can really tell the similarities

I actually added this manga to my queue recently: The Summit of the Gods
This was the manga that inspired Made in abyss so I thought you might find that interesting.

I’ll try and remember to look for that. I need another longer series I can read in bunches, This slow drip of once per week or month doesnt always satisfy.

Watched Komi…

Why do they need to add the extra stuff, the “zaniness” if you will. Its distracting. The bit of the manga I read wasn’t like this I dont think. Hard to maintain tone but perhaps I’m misinterpreting the manga.

I still like it, needs to even out.

Yeah it is kind of distracting but I was thinking I might get used to it.
It’s the main reason why I thought it was a good 1st ep not great.

This…this actually looks really promising. I admittedly have not watched Bebop but now it’s moved up to my current queue.

I like John Cho as an actor, but really…they should have found someone younger, taller, and perhaps with a bit more similar presence like Spike Spiegel.

I recall watching Bebop years ago and not coming away impressed. I’m tempted to watch it again to see if my recollection still stands. I wonder if its more nostalgia from it being one of the few animes that were around for a lot of us back in the day.

All I had for the longest time was just Dragon Ball Z, which I thought was supposedly the pinnacle of anime, silly silly me. Cell games was an epic arc at the time.

Occasionally, I also had Vampire Hunter D, Sailor Moon, some Wizard of Oz remake and of course Bebop. My video stores didnt carry anything, not even Akira.

There are so many… but I kind of have a thing for isekai so it doesn’t bug me as much. But very oversaturated with only a few standouts.

Slime datta ken is probably the best among them.

I did start watching Way of the Househusband and… it is not at all what I expected. Still hilarious though.

Didn’t care for Jojo as much as I thought I would, might have to give it another try.

Outside of slime I’m still searching for my next ‘love it’ anime. The last one I got super into was Violet Evergarden, but there’s been a lot of just meh or mildly entertaining stuff recently.

Bebop requires a certain frame of mind I find… and I sometimes will just watch my favorites and skip around.

Also started My Hero like 6 years late, and I’m kind of diggin it. Reminds me of a more kid-friendly Hunter x Hunter

That’s one I enjoy a lot. Second season opened things up.

That’s a treasure of an anime in my opinion. The live action version is questionable.

I’m stuck on the Egypt arc, its tough to get through. I’m told its considered a very slow part of the anime. I watch a few episodes then leave it.

From the new batch, Blue Period on Netflix (slice of life anime) has fantastic potential. The second episode was amazing, didnt expect it.

I started that a few months ago and blasted through it. A lot more fun than I imagined.

I’ll check out blue period! I’m a sucker for tearjerkers (Your Lie, Ghibli, Hotarubi no Mori e, Garden of Words, etc.)

I found a cute one only on sketchy-website™ a while back called ‘how to keep a mummy’ that was really pretty adorable.

Im still emotionally devastated by that one. Knew what was going to happen and it didnt matter.

eugh, right? I’ve seen it a dozen times and it’s still a mess each time.

Violet Evergarden really got me too, if you’ve seen it you know which episode…

I guess I also need to finish Fruit’s Basket. So many shows to watch, so little time.

I did also watch Mirai a little while ago. I think same director as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and one of his animators was a big part of 500cm Per Second.

Watcha lookin for?

Yes, yes I was bawling watching THAT ep. Honestly been the most emotionally impactful beating out Clannad, Plastic memories, and Angel beats (I’m sure I missed some more).

Been waiting for @perogie to finish this one. This is an A+ anime adaptation, albeit S1 & 2 being a bit sluggish. S3 was a complete home run.

I’ll get there.

I need to watch this one too.

I really should stop trying to watch middling new shows and watch the stuff that is highly regarded from recent past.

Also some classic 80’s animes can be a real breath of fresh air. My dad turned me on to Robotech a long time ago, and I still go back and rewatch a little. Also been skimming through the OG Dirty Pair, which is hilarious and campy, but kind of fun.

I also rewatched Escaflowne a while back, and have been meaning to finally see Akira, Naruto, Gundam, Evangelion… I did start Naruto and it’s got a fun Avatar-esque vibe. Evangelion is so slow in the beginning it’s been tough to get into.

I guess I’m looking for the next FMA:B, Bebop, Ouran, etc. The next series I can really get addicted to. For now it’s Slime, but I haven’t found my next ‘omg instabinge’ one yet.

Jujutsu Kaisen?

Somewhat a hype train but still fun.

Evangelion: I actually thought this was quite binge-worthy once you get past the slow build-up. If you’re going to continue this careful at the end. Some people recommend skipping eps 25&26. I’d still watch it but if you don’t want it to potentially ruin the experience stop at 24 and watch The End of Evangelion (actual ending). You can skip NGE: Death&Rebirth (it’s just a recap). If you end up loving the series you can go on to the Rebuild films (all on Amazon Prime) but I didn’t like it as much as the original fwiw.

Oddtaxi: Just came out this year. Fantastic original series, not too long so more of a short-binge. Very good at tieing in seemingly random events into one cohesive plot.

Shin sekai yori: This one has major thriller/psychological elements so it’s almost guaranteed you’d want to binge this. The first few eps are slow but after THAT certain very unpredictable twist happens, I ended up staying up all night to finish it. This anime is unforgettable imo.

Showa genroku rakugo shinju: Very niche anime but has top-notch storytelling.

A place further than the universe: Easily one of my top slice-of-life. It’s about a group of girls trying to get to Antarctica and their journey of friendship. Doesn’t seem appealing but trust me on this one.

Gurren lagann: It’s a classic so you may have watched it already. But if you haven’t it’s a binge-worthy mecha/shounen classic. Kind of like the 6XX of anime imo.

Fruits basket: You already mentioned this but I think this one is a mandatory binge. It’s one of those anime where it has this specific mood to it, so if you end up stopping at a certain point you’re likely to not get back into it.

Magi: I haven’t watched this in a long time but I remember enjoying and investing in it quite a bit. It does start off as meh but it gets pretty exciting after.

Death note: It’s very well-known so you may have already watched or heard about it. If not, it’s a thriller anime that will get you to binge it.

Kono oto tomare: I don’t think it’s particularly binge-worthy but since you mentioned Your lie in April, this is basically a school-life music anime done well (about the koto). Much better than Your lie in April imo but with less budget on the animation. Not to mention it has a very worthwhile ending performance in S2 with more impact than Your lie, albeit not as depressing. This has the top spot in music anime for me. The manga is absolutely one of my favorites.

Sakamichi no apollon: Music anime as well but with more focus on mature, seinen elements as well as a love story. Jazz-centered.

Mushoku tensei: Still ongoing but worthwhile isekai. Actually one of the pioneers of isekai because of the light novel so you may have already heard about it.
