And here I thought 2020 was brutal…
Thanks for the recommendation. I just watched 2 episodes. It is brutal but addictive!
Hmm … maybe I’ll start it up next… looking forward to the end of Season 2 of the boys
I’ve been waiting for Season 2 of The Boys to finish before I start watching it. I suppose the creators have every right to roll out the episodes on a weekly basis, and I have the right to pretend it hasn’t come out yet, and watch it when the whole season is there, just like every other streaming show I watch. End of rant.
Has anyone seen Devs on Hulu, by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation)? Its another paranoia/conspiracy-driven plot, but completely different style. It has a much much slower pace than Utopia, but that really suits the whole mood of the show.
I also wait for streaming shows to finish so I can watch them at my discretion. Waiting for the The Boys to finish up too. Gotta be careful to avoid spoilers when you wait thought.
I think they might be trying to cut down on the churn. If a sub ends in the middle of a series they have to renew for that extra month to see the end.
When the last season of The Expanse came out, I binged watched it all straight through in a single sitting. After that I was like “WTF, I want more! What the hell do you mean I have to wait another year for more episodes!!!”
so from that perspective, I can appreciate that they are releasing an episode every week. It at least gives me a couple months of something to look forward to on tv.
my problem is I’ll binge an entire series in a couple of days and just not sleep lol…
Exactly. I need an adult to manage my time. If Jeff Bezos is going to do it for me, I’m okay with it.
From what I’ve read, this was a creative decision from the production company, not from Amazon.
Here is a quote from Eric Kripke, the showrunner, talking about angry fans leaving bad ratings on Amazon because they’re frustrated with the weekly rollout:
“So I get that people are disappointed, but I think one thing they need to understand is, this is not like a corporate, Amazon money grab — this was from the producers. We wanted this. It was a creative choice. So they may like it or not like it, but they have to at least respect that the people who are making the show wanted it to be released this way because we wanted to have time to sort of slow down a little bit and have conversations about everything. So they at least have to appreciate that it was a creative choice.”
I think they were trying to capture the weekly excitement of waiting for the next GOT/Watchmen/HBO flagship episode to air, but that makes no sense to me on a streaming site.
I remember getting to that point at the end of the second to last season of The Expanse, and my solution was to persuade my wife that she would like it, so I re-watched the entire series again with her, and then we watched the last season together too. That was cool, because it changed categories from being one of my shows to being one of our shows. And now we can commiserate with each other while we’re waiting for the next season.
I do watch the Boys season 2 on a weekly basis, at my lunch break on fridays. Would prefer to have it all in one wash, though get why they do it.
just finished 1983/1986/1989 on Amazon last weekend.
Binge watched the third season with my wife over the weekend LoL. - really fun soundtrack, as well!
started “Billions” season 5 last week, which is also great!
our all time favorite is still “Dexter” - if somebody needs a few seasons for binge watching, with great characters and is ok with blood
another fun one is “misfits” https://www.thenerddaily.com/misfits-tv-series/ - for the viewer who prefers a look on the real gritty superheroes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misfits_(TV_series)
Was the last season good? I loved the preceding seasons before they moved to Amazon. Watched a few episodes from this season but wasn’t feeling it. Maybe my tastes or attention span have changed. I didn’t really like the last season of Rick and Morty either. These are both shows I previously enjoyed a lot.
Wow never heard of 'The Boys". I guess I need to check Amazon.
@ProfFalkin I blame you! I binge watched the entire 8 episodes of Utopia last night. Went to sleep after 3am… woke up around 6am… I’m dragging butt today
My job here is done.
I really enjoyed it, but it’s not so much of the action and adventure in space that you get with previous seasons because (spoiler alert) almost the entire season happens on one of the newly available planets through the ring. The whole planet is covered by alien tech, and when that tech comes to life, everyone dies slow terrible deaths - except for Miller, because he is already dead. ~ FIN
With that said some really brutal things happen, the story progresses smoothly, and it’s pretty entertaining.
I’ve watched a few episodes. Essentially they’re on site investigating and shits occurring. I probably left right as it was starting to get going.
I liked the space opera aspect so it may take some adjustment. I will eventually watch if only because it earned some loyalty.
Am I the only one who thought The Watchmen and The Mandalorian were overhyped garbage?
The Mandalorian definitely. Baby yoda isn’t so cute that I wanted to subscribe to Disney again just to see how it turned out. The storyline seemed really fragmented, the effects weren’t anything special, and the low-key humor wasn’t funny. Except the speeder bike trooper / baby yoda scene. That had me rolling.
Watchmen… The TV show was very meh. I don’t regret seeing it, but I could have passed and been happy too. If you’re talking about the movie, no way. One of my favorites.
The Battlestar Galactica remake (10 years ago) did that to me. Then streaming hit.
