I’m sure that’s what you meant whatever your errant fingers tapped. My understanding for the correction curve is that if the bass was recorded without it, the grooves become large and it is also very difficult to track. In particular when speeds were reduced to 45 and then 33 RPM (microgroove) recording it was necessary to make fine grooves for extended recording time.
There were several variants and competing curves. On some older and some specialist equipment you are able to choose which curve you wish to use. This will be dependent on the curve used in creating the recording.
Thanks, @generic, the comparisons were really interesting. And thank you, @cpp, for the article. I’ve only made it through a third or so, but am learning a lot. Thank you both for the info and links.
I apologise for my dyslexia: when it comes to acronyms it always makes some funny mods.
The principle for the eq curve described is simple: lower end frequencies can’t be read by the stylus if marked on vinyl as they were so they are reduced in mastering and then added in playback applying the inverse eq curve in pre amp.
There are several equalisations used by audio industry and the one mentioned is the most diffused one.
Thank you for correcting my errant, dyslexic fingers.
HNY, @monochromios. I only remember this acronym because of some display I vaguely recall while visiting a publishing client years ago in a very different job. SEMPTE, I think, and I can’t recall what their acronym stands for. It’s funny what the brain latches on to. Why, for example, did I ask Siri to play “the Siamese Cat Song” first thing this morning? Why do I blow my nose “tekia”? Why do I think that’s funny? My fingers get dyslexic too, and on things far more noticiable than RIAA,

Because this just happened to me when someone was playing Outside by Staind on some speakers!
I don’t know how to answer this. I’ve never been in a room.
Have you ever walked through a room, when it was more like the room passed around you, like there was a leash around your neck that pulled you through…
Oh, you mean the Airport in Charlotte, NC. Exactly like that. And they have moving walkways that have too many people on them to use when your connecting flight is on the other side of the U.
Have you ever been at some place, recognizing everybody’s face, until you realize that there was noone there you knew…
Do I need to sing the chorus?
Yeah, that’s a womb with a view. Warm, secure, pleasant. As soon as you leave you want to go back inside.
You are normally so poetic, so I think everyone thought you liked speaking in a lyrical style. Anyway, I’ll play this game…
I actually was a rap artist for a long time, so I can definitely speak in rhyme
IRL? (In Real Life)? If so, then what’s your rapper name?
The name is to be kept confidential
(But it was in Spanish anyway, so I doubt you or anyone else here will have ever come across it).
Let me guess. Was it SenyorC?
No, it was probably AchoReviews
“Si, Senyor”…
Now it wouldn’t be confidential if that was his rapper name now, wouldn’t it!
