Tubes, glow and tube amps

Not at all! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Starlett. I want to demo the Stratus first before making a decision on what DNA amp to buy. Taking into the account when the demo unit will be ready and the nearly 6-month wait time for assembly/delivery, I decided to get an OTL/ZOTL amp with a preamp output that didn’t require waiting. I’m excited for when you receive your DNA creation!

Don’t remind me about the wait, I’m still suffering withdrawals from the Starlett…lately my music listening sessions have not been the same, it is either not being in LA and back in DC, or not listening through the Starlett with its velvety sound, or a combo of the two :man_shrugging:t4:

My condolences. It’s tough unhearing/unfeeling once we experience that which strikes a chord.

That’s the best AC you can get, imo!

I fondly remember visiting Norway and Sweden. So green. I love mountains.

We almost hit a moose driving from my Uncle’s house way up North on our way down to Oslo. That was fun.

Hmm, wife came home, so I had to relocate.

The glowies are:

  • Cayin CS-55A
  • A&S Mogwai SE
  • Yaqin MC-10

Green glow downstairs…

Totally,

I will gladly admit that winter hasn’t arrived yet, so it was getting hot with everything running. With great climate comes great wall isolation as well.

Hehe, yeah the moose are quite the hazard tbh. Make sure to msg me if you are visiting again, I am close to Oslo.

I sometimes order coffee beans from Tim Wendelboe. Some say he’s the Zach M of the coffee world.

I’ve been to his cofee shop here in Oslo a couple of times. Not a cofee expert by any means, but i at least enjoy them a whole bunch… not sure how much is to be attributed to the notoriety of the man himself though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Astonishing, isn’t it that most of the Hi-Fi equipment of my youth that had tubes liked to cover them up so you could only see them through a screen cut in the sides or some slots in the top of the metal cabinet.

Nice. At least you recognize your potential biases jk. Talormade in Oslo is very good too; founder used to work for Tim. Scandinavian roast profile for the win.

They were functionally protected. No finger burns or cuts on broken glass. Less EM interference. Able to transport. Modern audiophile products sell to the hobby niche and aim for fashion or easy tube swaps. Mostly fashion IMO. Contemporary instrument tube amps are still caged or cased.

I’m digging the LTA design, with the transparent top presenting an off the shoulder, slightly above the knee look to it.

210 tubes in a rather odd eggplant shape, no mica anywhere just metal, ceramic and graphite. I enjoyed the Bendix 6080 graphite plate tubes, happy to know the rather unique sound is still present.

Experiencing the 6AS7G for the first time… beautiful glow, beautiful sound.

Paired with a NOS pair of Brimar 6C5G. The mesh shields are beautiful on their own… but I do miss seeing the full glow potential
