I’ve been meaning to share some Metal on here in light of the Halloween season and because, well…I love it.
Really digging this one…
So, this may not (as in, definitely won’t ) be for everybody. If you’re familiar with earlier Opeth albums this will be familiar territory. The big difference here is that where Opeths’ heavy moments were Death based, the heavy bits here are are mostly Black Metal rooted. I say mostly because this is quite a journey that goes everywhere (in a good way). Metal, symphonic, dark and light…it’s telling a story. It’s a lay back in your recliner- movie for your ears- kinda album.
And I shall see your The Reticent mention (listening to it now - thanks for the recommendation) and match with Be’Lakor’s “Coherence” (also, not your typical “audiophile” music). Definitely elements of Opeth here, but this Australian quintet has their own unique, entrancing sound, with elements of death, black, progressive and melodeath.
Awesome, love Be’lakor. This was a much anticipated release for me. Speaking of them. The other day I was listening to this band I’d never heard of “Countless Skies”…
And it had a some very Be”lakor-esque moments and looking back in my music catalog I noticed the song countless skies on “Stones’ Reach”
… not a coincidence they named themselves after a Be’lakor song. You can definitely hear the influence.
You should check out that album Glow…it’s awesome. The musicianship and songwriting is fantastic.
I did find the recording to be a little harsh and distracting with certain headphones.(especially my Mest) I guess that’s how it goes with Metal…it’s not always that well recorded.
A long time Starship fan, I hadn’t listened to this album all the way through. It shows a lot of focus. Some great rock fiddle in it also. Haven’t read the credits, but I suspect Papa John Creach
