I’ve been listening to viagr aboys by the Viagra Boys.

In our out-of-time interpretive era, many contemporary performers emulate stuff that was released decades ago. Welcome to the (mostly Swedish) Viagra Boys and their mash up of:

  • 1980s Black Flag — Henry Rollins anger and hardcore punk (Los Angeles style)
  • 1980s Pixies – goofy lyrics, goofy concepts, punkish, and a defining “alternative” band before Nirvana
  • 1970s Southern rock – The vocalist is an American with a USA accent, and imitates southern drawls now and then
  • 1960s Captain Beefheart – Random screaming and smashing of instruments (more than the Pixies ever did)

It works for what it is. I took it as an unreleased album by some of the above.

This is really good, was pointed out on another (non music) forum. Good slap bass, funny lyrics.

LOL ! Such a flashback heh heh …

One of my favourite bands back in the day. Bayou Country was one of the first LP’s I ever purchased. Still have many of their tunes on my faves list.

I have been a gamer for years. Especially deep into Eve Online almost since it’s beginning (not so much any more). Occasionally, I bump into music from video games and give it a listen. If any of you remember the soundtrack to Elder Scrolls Skyrim you will know how well loved it was.

In a similar vein, the soundtrack from a recently released (April 2025) game called “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” caught my attention. Music provided by a small orchestral group consisting mostly of strings, piano, guitar, some choral background and an amazing, ethereal and haunting vocal performance by Alice Duport-Percier. Composer is Lorien Testard. 154 tracks and over 8 hours of music. Wonderful chamber music in a neo-classical blanket with hints of baroque.

I am only about 20% in to the whole thing, but am enjoying it immensely. Game is already at #1 for 2025. Sold 500,00 copies in the first 24 hours. I believe the music had a lot to do with that.

Much of the vocals are in French, or an obscure French dialect which may reflect the time period and rough location the game is set.

The whole soundtrack is on Qobuz, and I believe on most other platforms as well. Enjoy !

Here’s 4 youtube samples and the Qobuz link …
