What music have you been listening to this past week?

If for some unreal reason I’m forced one day to listen just to one artist work and only one I think that will be Vangelis. Being a fan since I was a kid there is no theme I haven’t listen at least 100 times.
The 70’s is definitely his most prolific and innovative era with many albums, all of them either really good or excellent . “Heaven and Hell” is, in my modest opinion, the best of that decade and one of the best of all his career .

Working on a new playlist to familiarize myself with as I anticipate the Cayin N5iiS’ arrival; handicap this time was finding tracks that were in MQA on Tidal (harder than you’d think with some genres). It’ll be a work in progress for a while, but I’m open to suggestions of what to add in. Haven’t worked on adding in jazz or classical, so please recommend your MQA favorites and I’ll do my best to sequence them in.

Been a while since I’ve been on here. Started a new job that has been keeping me overwhelmingly busy and sadly haven’t had much spare time for music and headphone enjoyment.

I bought this CD a few weeks ago after being reminded about it, and have been really enjoying it: Groove Armada, Vertigo (1999).

Powerful track…I put it on in the car and a helicopter immediately started flying overhead. Granted, it was a medi-vac and I’m now stopped on the freeway, but the irony is thick here on the 101 this morning…

Love Kleiber and W Phil’s this rendition. Regardless of many reasonable criticisms I’ve heard, to me (as a casual listener) this is one of top three performances (and recordings) of Beethoven’s no 5 symphony, that makes me keep repeating for years.

Ooo yes they don’t make em like this anymore. And thank god I hear you say. Music always brings back strong memories. I was a big Madness fan back in the day. Nothing audiophile about these guys just catchy tunes. Also Soft Cell got a listen last night too. A bit of the infamous Marc Almond.

One of the best Vangelis collaboration albums ( if not the best ). “Odes”(1979),is an album of greek folks songs with music of Vangelis and actress/singer Irene Papas lead vocals.
They worked together early in the 70’s in the controversial theme “infinity” from the Aphrodites Child masterpiece “666” and they have one more album together in the 80’s ( Rapsodies ) but not as good at “Odes”, not even close.
Highly recommended, even if you don’t understand greek.

I’ll drink to that!

Maybe not the rightest – too emotional or too exaggerated. Too ‘Bernstein’.
Nevertheless, I consider this as one of the damn best K626’s.

I’ve been listening to an album called Sacrum Profanum by Adam Baldych. If you’re into non-standard jazz that makes use of drums, double bass, piano, and violin, this is some super unique stuff - and extremely well recorded. I didn’t quite like his earlier album, it was too spooky and depressing, but this new one is incredible. It’s weird too, but totally fascinating for good viola/violin tone.

Charango music!

A charango is a Latin American mini-guitar with 10 strings and disproportionately huge neck. They were originally made from armadillo shells. They sound and play a lot like a mandolin.

I would love to play like that. Nice find.

or if you are looking into melodic prog metal/rock Rush and dream theater are always a great option!
Dream Theaters new album “distance over time” is a great segway to start listening to them.
Dream Theater is a great band to listen to if you have appreciation of an individuals talent as pretty much the whole band is known for being some of the best in their instrument on the planet. (John Pettruci guitar and Mike Mangini Drums… and lots of drums (dont quote me but something like 80 piece drum set)

A common instrument even into Argentina. Los Chalchaleros and Los Tucu Tucu were two famous groups that play Argentine / Chilean / Bolivian folk music (and slightly commercial versions of it) that I’ve been listening to since 1968.

It’s easier to have their music going around in my head than to try and type the lyrics. Worth checking out.

A brief spurt of classic Madonna, and some posts on here, led me back to New Order (formerly Joy Division).

Either with the Cayin N8 -> Vérité or M-Scaler -> DAVE -> Phonitor X -> dual-mono Vidar -> SR1a, the dynamics, speed, and pace of this album is amazing.

“Subculture”, in particular, is nothing less than pure audio drama …
