What music have you been listening to this past week?

Listening to this now =) kind of nice data cleaning music…I hate data cleaning/scrubbing…

I have a piano for you if you want it. You’ll have to pick it up yourself, or arrange for shipping.
It’s a nice older cabinet (upright) full-size, good sound. Neighbor is a piano tuner. For $500 or so he’ll put all new hammers on it.

88 keys for all one price.

Sigh…large musical instruments can own you. Used drum kits are so very ‘desirable’ that Guitar Center will not buy anything lower than pro grade…

Thanks for the offer, but I’m pretty sure my wife would kill me if I did that right now. Probably have to start with a keyboard if i do take up that hobby.
By the way, gave your profile a read just to try and see how close you were to me. Its hilarious, the missile coordinates gave me a good laugh, and blazing saddles is my favorite comedy!

I was frying myself this morning while painting my deck and listening to these two Rick Wakeman albums.
Most of the people know Rick Wakeman as one of the members of Yes, with me was the other way, I knew Yes because of the “solo” work of Wakeman. Most of his albums from the 70’s and 80’s are amazing.

I won his Journey to the Center of the Earth album in a radio call in. Not a bad prize.

In deed , one of the many Wakeman excellent albums. He did a “Return to the Center of the Earth” late in the 90’s or early 00’s and was not as good as the first journey. Ozzy and Bonnie Tyler were among the singers .

I remember inheriting that album on a cassette when I was young, well, more than inheriting it, I stole my dads collection of Cassettes when the CD players were released. It was a fun journey!

I have been listening to Caro Emerald this week, actually three times (the same album) on different headphones for comparisons sake.

It is not the best recorded album in the world but I seem to have become attached to it.

So last night, still bummed that my usual headphone amp was huevos fritos I connected the Massdrop Sennheiser HD-6xx’s to the iFi xDSD and started up Radio Paradise Mellow Mix. It got too mellow, so I went to the main mix. After a song or two, something came up that was reminiscent of something Beatle-ish. I just thought F**kit, and brought up Tidal, and dialed up a favorite since I entered High School. Yeah, I had good taste even then.

If you have never listened to this album all through, you should do so SOON. It’s a workout for headphones. It is also worth playing loudly. Loudly on speakers, if you have speakers that will do it justice - if not, I think you could visit @Torq and twist his arm.

Albums used to be … albums. There is an order to the songs. There is some studio gimickry here, but mostly its artistic stuff. And you hear certain sounds - sounds that if you are my age will be etched into your brain. Like the sound of a pinball machine racking up a replay.

Or the sound of an electric guitar, amplifier near maxed out, wailing through a Leslie. I can close my eyes and see the speakers spinning.

A new one, that’s been keeping me entertained for a good chunk of the day (great demo for the SR1a, and the Vérité in particular):

Last night I was listening to this orchestral and choral work from Vangelis. Originally from the early 90’s, wasn’t recorded in CD and Video till this concert happen in 2001. Vangelis did some variations and extended it with a couple of movements .
Spectacular concert (if you can catch it in video), with the London Metropolitan Orchestra, the Greek National Opera’s Chorus, an ensemble of more than 100 percussionists and the sopranos Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battle.

I have been going through quite the mix of music in the last little bit. I stumbled upon London Grammar a little while ago and they’ve made it into my listening quite a lot over the last little bit.

This rendition of Hey Now is a fun one to listen to

I don’t even know what Genre these songs belong to but it’s a bit of a mix between metal, synth and pop/punk? Definitely not something I would recommend to most people but it makes for a bit of a different listen.

Spotify describes these guys as a indie electronic/dance-rock quintet so whatever that means, here they are.

And then back to some more relaxing stuff. I like pretty much everything from these guys and I’ve been playing the album Revival for the last month or so on repeat some days.

And then getting into the full ambient stuff I’ve been playing a bunch of stuff from these guys

My wife is also a huge Paramore fan so some of her live stuff sometimes sneaks in to my playlists. Her acoustic sessions from the 2013 Grammys are particularly good

Trying to set up the Lyr3, looking for some quick, but familiar test material. Went to Tidal and grabbed one of the first MASTER quality that I could find. Yeah, it’s Disney. And yeah, we saw the play on Broadway, so I know what it sounds like live on stage (not film) I do like the Ladysmith Black Mombazo (Lion King 2) music a bit better.

Fun stuff.

I was listening to these tonight on Spotify pretty fun:

For my Canadian brethren, here is a cool East Canada band:

I’m on a roll…drinking from my Infinity bottle mixed with bourbon and ryes…

I love me some steel drums (this is more electronic, but it has some steel drum sound that I really like)

Ok back to just enjoying my music…I think I’ve given enough rando music for everyone to digest

I saw Daniel Lanois perform parts of this album in Montreal a couple of years ago. It was fantastic. His second album, For the Beauty of Wynona is my favourite.

A lot of Rap, Hip Hop an RnB

Ran through Ol’ Dirty Bastard this morning, production quality is terrible but I love his voice and flow overall.

The theme music to the classic Atari ST/Commodore Amiga game “Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe” (which is the name of both my speedball, i.e. competitive paintball, team and my Xbox Live handle … i.e. “Brutal Deluxe”).
