I had never listened to this album before but was a Petty fan… I’ve listened to it 3 times since you posted this. thanks for sharing! I really wish I would have gotten to see him live.
There’s a certain sincerity in the choir’s singing of the hymn that’s very satisfying.
I hadn’t heard of Bishop Briggs before (or maybe I just didn’t register her) but I was watching an episode of The Good Doctor last night and one of the tracks had me look her up.
I haven’t listened to more than her latest album so far today (lots of phone calls) but it is not bad (in my opinion of course). Some of it is “just more of the same” but still listenable:
I’ll check out her other albums as I get chance.
Alice Cooper - ‘Paranormal’
Cut Copy - ‘Zonoscope’
Bye Bye Birdie - original soundtrack
Cirque du Soleil - ‘Criss Angel: Believe’
Green Day - ‘Father of All…’
Tame Impala - ‘The Slow Rush’
Josh Rouse - ‘Country Mouse, City House’
Harold Faltermeyer - ‘Cop Out’ (original score)
John Morris - ‘Clue’ (original score)
Henry Mancini - ‘Experiment in Terror’ (original score)
various synthwave and synth scores
‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ is probably my favorite Bond score.
This afternoon has been relaxing listening to some covers:
But, as it is Friday, I think something more upbeat should be called for now…
Bonnie & John Lee Hooker
Bonnie & Lowell George (and others)
Rory Gallagher
Rad I will give a listen, thanks Wes! I always like seeing your music recommendations!
Herbie had a lot of moves early on. He was tagged as post-bop, and he surely was that; but he could do other things…indeed, his entire career has been about “doing other things.”
Here’s a beautiful ballad from trumpeter Blue Mitchell’s debut recording, “Cry Me a River.” Like Herbie, Blue was considered a post-bop player, but on ballads he was purely lyrical, beyond category.
Like everyone else Herbie started as a sideman & that’s what he is here. Listen to how creatively Herbie comps Blue throughout: he has his Art Tatum hat on w/pretty little glissandos & harmonic fills that totally are not post-bop. Then finally Joe Henderson’s tenor enters w/jagged post-bop lines, suddenly reminding everybody what year it was (1963, one year after Herbie’s TAKIN’ OFF).
The new Grimes album Miss Anthropocene…at least once. This one seems pretty atmospheric and free flowing so far (I’m not through it yet).
Never heard of it–but the 1st song is really good (hearing it on YouTube). Guess I’m a fan now…
Herbie is very versatile and has made a point of playing with various artists of different genres and finding ways to fit into that music as well. The first time I had herd Herbie was with John Mayer in “Stitched Up” from his 2005 album Possibilities. This still is one of my all time favorite songs of either of theirs. If any of you haven’t heard it I suggest a listen, as its truly something special.

Anyone be interested in a bit of a band rundown of Tool? Bit of a guide on albums, hit songs, awesome not as popular ones etc?
Very much so! I am big into prog rock metal etc… Rush and Dream Theater get a ton of play time on my gear… just haven’t spend much time listening to Tool. A rundown would be much appreciated.
Sweet. Will whip something up. I’m no music expert, but haven been listening to them for a good 2 decades or so…
Thank you! I’m looking forward to it! Let me know if you’re looking into more Dream Theater etc I’d be happy to help there.
More quality content the better!
I’ll get something together then over the next few days!
Ok, I tried:
