You hear the ringing when using speakers and have airborne vibrations, or even with headphones? I’ve been sparse on all these isolation / damping gear as I’m headphones only, but curious what others’ experiences have been…
On headphones. I don’t notice it while music is playing but if I pause I can hear it ring out.
Really strong on the EAT 300b. I actually don’t use those anymore but I’ll have to bust them out and see what happens.
I haven’t tried them before so we’ll see. Bought a couple sizes to start out with. Curious to see what the effect is.
It’s all custom components that have to be special-ordered, you can’t just go to Home Depot:
Titanium ring
PTFE isolation pads
Custom polymer O-ring
Add on labor, paying the rent, other expenses running your own business etc etc. And he probably has a lot of inventory sitting around because he probably needs to order more materials than he can shift on a regular basis.
Not saying there isn’t margin built in but none of us know if he’s charging what he thinks people will pay or charging what he needs to pay the bills.
For those who enjoy crafting, creation is the main fun activity. The component costs are likely minimal (e.g., one can easily repurpose all sorts of fun industrial stuff from https://www.mcmaster.com/, or save a fortune importing directly from AliExpress rather than buying the same items in the US). I’d actually be surprised if the parts weren’t off the shelf.
But yes, the cost of doing business in the tube accessories niche still requires labor and custom builds and running a store front and dealing with returns and customers and paying for food and housing.
Picked up a few input tubes for Stellaris. The first 3 are all 6BQ7A variants; the last one is a RCA 6CG7 (which has lower gain and allows more volume range, though this one is terribly noisy. I bought it from the same seller that I got the 6BQ7As from because it was much cheaper than the same tube from other sellers, so I figured “why not?”. Now I see why. lol)
Mine of course!
Well, I saw your amp post (gorgeous by the way!!) first so……
I like @robson s’ answer though lol!!
Perfect answer!
… as long as it is a Dennis Had Inspire Fire-Bottle of course.
Adapters finally came. Post office lost them for a few days…not sure how. They said they delivered them last week but to an “alternate location” at my residence…whatever that means
. Anyway, they showed up today and my amp is looking more and more like a science project.
These came in from Ukraine today too!!! Looking forward to trying them this weekend. Melz 1578…
Indeed! Looking forward to seeing a Flux Capacitor smack dab in the middle!
Looking good man. Nice land on the Melz!
Thanks. Yeah, they are scarce and getting crazy $$$. I got a chance to turn these on for just a few minutes so far and they seem to be quiet…. I have another pair that are get pretty noisy intermittently. I’m going to resolder the pins at some point and see if that takes care of it.
GEC U52
Hopefully this lives up to the hype. Won’t be able to tell until I have an amp for it tho lol. These seem to be hard to find.
Finally found one. Was a little worried with this purchase but it worked out.
Interesting these only have 4 pins for a 5u4g.
My Decware amp came from the factory with a 4 pin 5u4g too.
Congrats!!! Let me know what you think after you’ve gotten a few hours w/ it.
