First concert I went to with friends and without parents was The Who - 25th Anniversary Tour at RFK stadium, We’d been listening to Live at Leeds a lot before that and was expecting exactly that - raw sound, just four guys. In actuality, tons of backup singers and other musicians.

@MRphotogray, @Wes_S - I saw the Dead in '90 too - pretty nice show. Edie Brickell opened for them and remember her looking into the stadium crowd saying, “you all look like a big bowl of multicolored beans from here, and I’m a giant cyclops and going to eat you.” As being possibly one of the few sober people at the show, I thought that seemed pretty odd!

For my first concert, I got to see Fleetwood Mac. I was only 12 years old. My sister won the tickets on the radio. The concert was at the Louisville Garden and we were on the floor about 20 rows back or so. They were fantastic and Stevie Nicks was hot.

First proper concert I attended was with one of my best friends in high school. He was a big Genesis fan so he invited, and paid for, to go catch Phil Collins at the Great Western Forum for his But… Seriously tour. That was my first time at the GWF also. The first one I paid for was Janet Jackson, took my college GF to that one

You, Sir, have glorious hair.

Ameoba music is an institution. Was that in Berkeley, SF or LA? I stop in the Berkeley store whenever I can

Haha! I don’t have that hair anymore. I actually shaved my head recently and I love the convenience, but not too keen on the aesthetic. Though I’ve been told I look both younger, and more Latino.

Metallica; 1991 Wherever We May Roam Tour
It was at the old Memorial Auditorium, former home of the Buffalo Sabres aka “The Aud”. I was not ready for how loud it was, damn good show.

First and only concert I ever bought tickets and went to was Ninja Sex Party.
No regrets.

Indeed seeing Rush live was not just attending a concert, it was an experience. They knew how to “tune in” with the audiences and man, were they ever musically gifted, the sound was loud but still melodic, and I still have goosebumps thinking about that bone-shaking bass that hit you right in the chest, what an empowering feeling that was. And the drumming… wow just breathtaking, you could clearly hear the tiniest hint of a percussion. Although Peart described himself as a percussionist he just happen to be the best drummer alive for decades, according to critics and drummer magazines. When you watch drummers nowadays you see many that handle their sticks like he did, flipping them around his hands, sorta like a majorette. That must’ve not been easy to master even for Peart at first but I’ve never seen him drop a stick. I’ve seen him tossing over his shoulder but never knew the reason, I suppose it was a damaged stick. He was notoriously temperamental.

DOH!!! Forgive me - I thought this was the “First Album” thread. First concert was Clapton’s 451 Ocean Blvd Tour

I’m in a Record Store with my two big brothers. I’m going to buy my first ALBUM! - not just a 45 single - an LP, an actual Album!!! My brothers are helping me pick. I’ve got a few in my hands, I’ve been saving $$$ for this moment. We get to the cashier, I’m pulling out a small ball of wadded singles, starting to peel them off, and my brothers say “Put your money away. Happy Birthday.”
In my arms were The Who’s “Who’s Next,” Jethro Tull’s “Aqualung,” and Mountain’s “Nantucket Sleighride.”
As I heard from my friends on the playground as the story was retold: You have the coolest brothers!
Agreed! I had the coolest brothers!!
