One of my favorites, gold pins too. Enjoy
Thank you, I am really looking forward to them as I have been making do with a cheap pair of questionable 6DJ8s
The review for the other mortals was only released today. That is a beefy amp as well.
Brent Jesse is a great vendor for tubes
In the box what is…
I got this to do a shootout with my Ampsandsound se84 But after hearing I might have to keep both
I found that my ampsandsound se84 works great in my 2 channel setup and this Kenzie og
will be used in my bedroom headphone setup!
Will supply a compare and contrast review between the two ampsandsound amps soon after some time digging into them!
An excellent concealment box, now that is creative
How do you find the build quality on those? Looking into getting one for my 4yo son.
Build quality is okayish I guess. I haven’t really put them through any rough testing, not like a 4 year old could. =) I haven’t had any problems with the build quality when I have used them myself. They seem fine to me.
I noticed that the height adjustment is looser on one side than the other, so maybe that’s an indication that build quality is decent, but not outstanding.
I would probably look for something smaller/lighter for a child. Like cheaper Koss or Philips models.
Nice Kenzie. I have an original Kenzie that Justin made for himself, and a Kenzie Encore I picked up from Zach at ZMF. I’d suggest a Raytheon 2C52 input tube in lieu of the 12SL7. Much better input tube IMO. You can also use octal to noval adapters and choose to use 12AT7s. There is also a octal to noval adapter to change out the output 1626 tubes for 12B4A. It basically doubles output power…although if you don’t need the extra juice, the 1626 is a really sweet tube. Great stuff from ampsandsounds.
Got this yesterday.
They have an incredible sound for a less than $100 IEM and confort is impressive! Haven’t try the switch yet.
That is an interesting vent on them.
It is and it make wonders with soundstage and instruments separation.
I’m far for having the experience of more guys here, but these guys sound really good for the price. I did change the cable, I’m not using the one on the picture.
I did a thing.
You know how it is when you are waiting for Zach to build and ship your custom ordered headphones? Auteur in my case.
You check the spreadsheet more often than you check your phone. You fuss over your choice of rods and grille. You try not to count the days. You eventually start looking for another pair of headphones to tide you over.
I found these for sale “locally” ( = in the same country, 500 km away, that’s close enough for me ):
Super happy with them!
They are so light compared to my Ironwood VC.
Will post more sound impressions later in the Vérité thread.
Thanks for the info @rrwwss52, I will look into those adapters and tubes.
do you know where to buy the adapters?
Ive been using my Ampsandsound el84 amp via its speaker taps in my 2 channel rig so this Kenzie will be my main headphone rig. I love it and works well with my Aeolus and look forward in using it with my Verite open that are on preorder!
You can find them on ebay. Some tube resellers might also have access to them. I would suggest pin checking the adapters before using them. You can pull the pin diagrams off of pocnet.net
Here’s a picture of my input tube adapter. I got it off of ebay as well.
This is an absolutely great data cable. I have 5 or 6 of them and they have made a big, big difference in the quality of sound for each of the systems–averaging I’d say about 20% improvement. Lifatec buys this cable from a German company that also sells it to the medical market for optical camera/surgical applications. Each cable is made from an insane number of individual strands of pure glass (well over 100). And that’s what makes the transmission of sound data so much better than garden variety fiberglass. If you’re currently using optical cable in any of your systems, you might want to consider one of these as an upgrade. They cost about $125. That price is up roughly 30% from when I first started buying them about four years ago, but if there’s a better optical cable for audio I don’t know what it would be.
I was initially surprised after replacing an Amazon Basics TOSLINK with the Lifatec. I didn’t want to think I was experiencing confirmation bias, and after a day of listening I have to agree that these are vastly superior cables.
The best way I can describe the difference is greater focus and clarity, if that makes sense.
I agree, these are exceptional cables and I highly recommend them.
I agree that greater focus and clarity accurately describe the Lifatec. Maybe a little more punch too. And their performance doesn’t fade with extended listening sessions or years of use.
I couldn’t be happier with my Lifatec’s, which are used with DAC’s connected to headphone amps, self-powered speakers and big rig speaker systems.
I especially think anybody with a sizable investment in their DAC should consider this cable, for a big extra bang for the bucks they paid for that crucial component.
