It’s under a glass shelf. Arms are safe…
Those sharp points do look deadly. I am not sure why manufacturers go that route.
Just got this in
Great build quality from the feel of it (time will tell, of course). Feels rigid and has heft to it, but feels light on the head. The alcantera pads and headband feel very smooth, like suede pads from Dekoni and ZMF. The cable is so springy and microphonic that I’ll be replacing it. As for the comfort, I feel a hotspot starting to build up on top of my head after about 15 minutes. I very rarely get hotspots from headphones. I’ll try a Pilot pad later.
First learned about these two years ago. So much more stunning than any ZMF I’ve had. Pics don’t do koa justice at all. The chatoyance is like nothing I’ve ever seen. View a cup one way and it appears a light colored wood, rotate it some and now the wood looks dark. There’re waves in them, so much color variation. Where I live, I’ve seen a lot of koa, including on my entertainment center, but nothing that is this stunning. I’d love to see more pics of these posted.
New LampizatOr Baltic 3. The new models no longer come w/ the High/Low gain switch. Not a massive issue but for the $$ spent I wish the folks at Lampi would have mentioned they were in the middle of re-vamping the product and that the newer “better” model would have the gain switch deleted. (Supposedly quieter and cleaner w/out the switch, and has his newest engine installed, I’m surprised he did not re-name it Baltic 4) Nonetheless the product is wonderful and I’m happy i stuck to my decision process and purchased it.
LCD-X (2021 rev) w/ Leather Pads
The use of reinforced paper tape with the company logo is a nice touch.
I like the clever use of what looks like a cut-down pool noodle to make the corner supports.
Inside of the case is custom-cut open cell foam with separate compartments for the headphones and accessories. It reminds me a little of my Rickenbacker’s case.
Here’s everything included in the Creator Edition: headphones, keys for case, two desiccant packs, 1/4" single ended cable, a signed certificate of authenticity, and a user guide card.
Lastly, a profile shot of the headphones sans cables.
Great purchase!! I dearly miss my old Lampi and one day will get another.
Where did you get the rings… they look very nice…
Let us know how this sounds! I stumbled across this and was curious but wasn’t sure I wanted to blind buy
These are custom rings from Rosson Audio Design. I’m super happy with how they turned out.
Omg, these look amazing! I thought I liked the funky look of RAD-0’s, but this more “classic” look might even suit them better!
Isolation, coming in hot!
So, isolating the DAVE, which I did a while ago, was a nice, noticeable improvement. I knew I’d isolate my tubes at some point, but just kept putting it off - and now I’m mad at myself. This is a much bigger change vs the DAVE. Instantly bigger sound stage, instrument separation, blacker background, and just an increased sense of ease and naturalness to the music. I cannot recommend these Isoacoustics Orea pucks enough. I have more on the way for my remaining digital pieces, but if you have tubes, especially, do yourself a favor and try these out.
Why you do this to me?
I’d love to see a double blind test on these versus $16 rubber grommets. I’m sincerely curious.
I know, I’m sorry. I just really think they’re pretty good bang for the buck. For ~$250 (+/- depending on the weight of your amp), it’s basically a really good cable upgrade, and that can easily be a $500+ proposition.
I always support even cheaper ways to get a better outcome! Heck, I favored a $400 streamer over a $2K option. FWIW, the Woo WA5-LE does have rubber feet, so I’m guessing the isolation pucks are actually doing something meaningfully more, but who knows.
People have used all sorts of things for vibration dampening. This includes car tire inner tubes, foam rubber, etc. etc. etc. etc. These do indeed work in some contexts (especially turntables).
I’m not saying anything is good, bad, or better than anything else. But this can be tested.
That’s really interesting. I’ve been looking into isolation components too, but it’s very overwhelming. I’m down to Herbies and Isoacoustics, and it may be a toss of a coin to pick one of them. What made you choose the Orea pucks over other alternatives?
I wonder if we need a isolation components thread?
Partially a good experience with the Zazen I table under my DAVE, and also on the recommendation of my contact at TMR Audio.
Let’s do it!
Thanks! The resin rings are beautiful and remind me of Murano glass. But there’s something about the natural and classic look and feel of wood that called out to me.
