What's in the box!

How do you like them? What’s your use case? Near field listening?
I have questions.
Would love to hear more about this in the 2.1 thread maybe? What was your decision process? These are high sensitivity speakers and might pair well with my Inspire tube amp.

Thanks!

Poor Hugh got himself kilt in season 1 of Picard

Snagged this on USAM during the weekend… should serve solid state duties until HM1 arrives!

I had some Adorama store credit leftover from a photography-related return so I thought I would take advantage of email pricing and purchase a Sennheiser HD 800 S:

Currently, I have a little over 45 minutes on the headphones (Grimes - So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth [Art Mix], Fleetwood Mac - Dreams, Santana - Evil Ways, Daft Punk - Get Lucky, sakanaction - Shin Takara Jima, TAEYEON - INVU, and Luciano Pavarotti - Rigoletto, Act III: La donna e mobile). My source is two-thirds of my office stack: Schiit Gungnir Multibit and Folkvangr (high gain, impedance multiplier off, stock tubes).

My initial impressions are that they are very comfortable, being considerably lighter than my ZMFs and having the right amount of clamp force. They don’t “disappear” while wearing them, but I’ve never encountered a headphone that does so. The HD 800 S shipped with the single-ended cable installed and it’s one of the better stock cables I’ve used. I would be happy using it or the 4.4mm balanced cable going forward (most likely the latter with a balanced to single-ended adapter to minimize plugging and unplugging the cables). Sonically, nothing bad stood out to me, though it is early yet and my DAC and amp combo may have addressed most common complaints.

If I can put enough hours on them in time, I may bring them to PAF to try out various source gear there.

Regards,
Vic

Got a good deal for it. Upgrading from the UTWS3 and pairing with the FH7S.

New stand!!!

Is nicer than the old stand…

Excellent work by the craftsmen at the UrbanFactor Etsy store. Size and chunkiness put into perspective below, next to a Salamander Archetype 2.0 stand (a popular, similar stand). I specifically got this stand, in Walnut finish, modified to all black hardware, and height reduced to 92cm. I also bought my own rubber feet and rubber washers from Mcmaster-Carr.

The new stand looks good! How’s the Yamazaki by the way?

I tried those… I found the control buttons very touchy, hard to reliably get the ‘sweet spot’ . I liked the idea of being able to turn any iem into a wireless, though!

Hi @andris. I really like this. The stand has a ton of class and quality just like you and your gear itself. It is a perfect match. Well done my friend.

Hot! Where is the Holo Red? Did you end up not keeping it?

Loving your gear!! But, what I really went “Oooooooooooo” to was the Oban 14 - my favorite “everyday” single malt.

Worry not! It’s there! Just hiding on the back of shelf 2 along with my NUC PC.

There just isn’t any useful information on the front of either of those, so it’s nice to have all of the inputs and outputs easily accessible in back.

I didn’t see your Burson either, did you end up selling it?

Very classy setup! :+1:

No, I still have it. I’m saving more on this for a different post but you may also notice two, identical Mytek Brooklyn DACs plopped in the second shelf from the top (where the Burson will live). I’m planning some fun experiments / posts for the future (assuming I find the time) where two identical components are needed …

Welp, haven’t had anything to report for ages in this thread, but!

a box

A foam sarcophagus

A velour tracksuit

and a DAC! Not the signature model, but the regular “Edition XLR.” Looking forward to gettting some listening in later. I really enjoyed the WaveLight so this will be cool to try.

Very nice! I came close to going with Rockna over Holo, and suspect I would have been equally happy with your choice. Congrats!

That is big time.

I got a song for you and it is well recorded. Play it. Your DAC will love it!

3 weeks ago I drove to Geers in Harislee, Germany and had imprints of my ear canals made. The imprints were sent of to Sennheiser so they could make a set of Sennheiser Custom Comfort Tips as part of this campaign

Parcel with the custom tips arrived today
