What's in the box!

New (to me) Riviera AIC10.
On my Lampi which just came back last night from a check up in Poland.

Nice, what headphone you got paired up with the AIC 10?

Just my caldera. I only own one… I’m monogamous

Wow, I’m impressed! Not permanently, I will bet. Most (all?) of us here are polyamorous. I know I am!

At least with regards to headphones anyway…

Hey! Someone else who keeps their singing bowls near their tube amps! It’s all good vibrations, I guess

You should put your singing bowls on isolation pucks to minimize interaction!

Oh wow, those are beautiful. Those bottom two look big! I bet they sound great. I keep mine near the tube amps in an effort to exorcise any unwanted ringing from my tubes, lol.

Thanks, they’re great bowls! My obsession for the perfect singing bowl almost rivals my obsession for headphones haha

That middle one in particular has a really resonant, strong, and clear tone.

Couple “new to me” things this weekend and the first new items in a while.

L&P W4…

Next to my Q5k for comparison…

Then there’s this I picked up out of pure curiosity at a rummage sale…

I’d never heard of or seen one of these. After a little research it seems this is about a hundred years old. Came in original box, all original manuals and materials and headphones. It’s designed to run off an electric fence. I’d like to see if I can rig a battery up and antenna and see if it makes any sound.
EDIT: after looking into it more…it doesn’t require power. The references of connecting it to a fence are as an aerial antenna not a source of power.

Audiophiles do crazy things to ensure our gear is balanced, level, and perfect in every way.

Just kidding. I bought it for a room I’m finishing in my basement, but I had to check lol.

I built a crystal radio as a kid. Ran a fine wire like used for small electric motors’ winding about 75 feet from my bedroom window to a tree in the back yard. Could pick up local stations and a couple of clear channel stations – KMOX and WCFL

So this came tonight.

Listenmore Silver headphone cable with 6.35mm SE connector.

This is one looong soft cable. Looks & Feels nice. My sons, all three of them, approve of it.

I wanted silver because I though it would look good with the Focal Elegia. I do believe it does.

A quick listen with the Topping D10s & Schitt Magni Heretic. I pulled the cable I was using, Amazon Generic, and plugged the Listenmore in. Now I did not expect any great differences, however the Listenmore has more, for a lack of a better word, presence. Detail is always good on the Elegia but this change made it more so. I’m sure I will notice more as I get time to use it.

But for now to Andrew & Taron, well done gentlemen. Well done.

Could to see they arrived safe and sound! I’m a sucker for the blue ones myself.

I like both the Silver & Blue. The Silver shows up really well on my desk with it’s Big Sky Blue mouse mat. My intention now is to get a balanced version in Blue so it will be easily identified.

Picked these up. Not super in love with the color but they’re cool. Changes so much in pics depending on the light.

If I like these I may get another set. Maybe a dark wood with stainless or gun metal grilles and rods.

Currently I have the caldera suede, caldera thick leather, be2, and what looks like a caldera ultra perf. I think so far I like the caldera suede. I think the caldera stock leather would be perfect. Need to pick a pair up.

But so far I like it. Solid off the DNA and mj3.

So with the recent purchase of the Stellaris, I felt I needed a bit more out of my DAC to get the most performance possible. I felt there was a bit of a bottleneck and I was leaving performance on the table. The Wavelight has been great to me, and I absolutely love the DAC for the price and where it sits in the used market. I feel you get a lot for what you pay. I’d take it over the May and TT2, it’s just a solid DAC IMO.

But I needed a bit more. I’ve been doing a lot of research and thinking about my next move. I wanted something that could take upgrades, be updated remotely, and last me a long time. I wanted a solid built in streamer if possible and good software. Icing on the cake would be a nice UI accessible via an app. This would help with tweaking the DACs settings, updates, and even playing local files. Sound wise I wasn’t interested in anything too analytical but wanted something detailed enough without approaching that level, smooth up top (don’t like harsh, peaky highs), solid bass, and a nice stage if possible. I was hoping to get an improvement in layering, texture, and timbre. @ValentineLuke mentioned the dCS line and the options they have, so I continued my research. Well I came across an option and I couldn’t pass it up. It’s basically everything I was looking for.

Can anyone guess?

Well, it’s obviously a dCS…

But which one?

Who is this guy?

Rossini!

Side note, when doing my research I noticed dCS uses composer names for their devices. So after reading up on Rossini, I had no idea he liked the Utopia. He even upgraded to the 2022 version before he died in 1868. Wild! Guy has amazing taste.
