I think they might be a good contender against headphones ~$1k range like the ZMF Auteur or Focal Clear. First impressions are very positive so far. Comfort is a bit lacking, but I heard the ZMF pilot pads seems to solve this issue. I’ll try to gather some thoughts later and share
I appreciate it! As the ones I heard were still prototypes as I recall… honestly aesthetics have begun to matter more and more to me and well frankly these just aren’t doing it for me aesthetically. Looking forward to your thoughts on the sound! I recall it being very capable during the time I had with it.
LOL yeah I totally understand, I’m not totally in love with the look and they will never look as beautiful as ZMFs. I plan on swapping the top part with the Audeze LCD headband.
It’s funny hey. 10 years ago I couldn’t give a crap. Now I want something that is good to look at too, as it sits there on its stand looking at me, and I’m at the point of probably keeping the best sets for a long time.
Exactly! I need good looking and sounding lol
Wonder if you could retro-fit a nice Audio Technica mesh grill to the side.
I kind of dig the open driver look haha idk it’s unique… in a good way
How is it? If one came up cheap enough around these parts I’d seriously consider it. Looks pretty damn good!
You could just ask for my number and take me to a nice steak dinner.
Love it. I am glad I follow my instinct and went for it.
After many debates of Topping AMPS, Cabali, Monolith, etc… I said fkit… Enough of this reviewers… I am going for what I am looking for, what I need, and like.
Couldn’t be happier!
As long as it’s in Australia! And involves whiskey…
Our steaks are world class. That is true!
I’ve been to Melbourne and Sydney! I want to move there so bad! Loved everyday that I was there!
Melbourne and Sydney are fairly similar, our biggest cities and very much different to most of Australia.
Brisbane, where I am, is a smaller but also very much more laid back and easy going as a whole, which is basically the vibe for a lot of Aus and especially QLD.
We have our issues for sure, but overall compared to other countries and their issues AND climate, we’re bloody lucky!
Kiss your ZMF hoarding goodbye though, shits expensive.
No, this is not the “specialty” amplifier I mentioned here … that’ll likely be next week now. This is something I ordered right around Valentines day … and that just showed up …
Just quick snaps with the phone, so color/lighting is all over the place, but might do a proper all-up shot of my current portable setup in a bit.
I had been waiting (and hoping) that Matrix would released their Element:X in black, but they only seem to want to do that for their entry-level model, which I have no interest in, so this combo will become my bed-side rig (home, travel and boats) instead of the Matrix.
Fully wireless (i.e. will run for 8 hours on battery alone), portable, Roon playback (since A&K still haven’t added Roon end-point to their players, something that was originally slated for January LAST year). With the ability to play directly off a pair of internal microSDXC cards, as well as various other sources (MPD, DLNA/UPnP, AirPlay and Bluetooth*) and the ability to take a wired Ethernet connection.
Now to do some listening …
*Yes, Hugo 2 has Bluetooth built-in already. The 2go supports it for use with the 2Yu as a streamer/interface/source for other DACs.
Is it really as small as it looks, seems like solid state trickery to me.
The 2go itself is 100mm x 50mm x 22mm.
Attached to the Hugo 2, the whole setup is 180mm x 50mm x 22mm.
It’s not going in a pocket, like you could do with a DAP, unless you’re wearing a SCOTTeVest or something similar. But that’s what I have DAPs for …
Are you still using (or happy with) these cables?
Yeah, they are great! They are a little janky but they overall are quite excellent!
Great. Just ordered a Sennheiser cable and one interconnect kit as well. Hopefully it will get here by the end of this month. There’s a big lead time as of today.
Thanks!
