What's in the box!

How many adapters you got so far? I recall seeing quite a few. The purpose of this is to use the same cables with different cans, right? It sounds like a smart move to save some $$$, no need for cable upgrades for each set of cans.

PURDY!!! They remind me of J. Herbin Kyanite Du Nepal ink. Impressions on sound yet?

Side note: do not get into fountain pens if you’re a headphone addict

Yup, that’s the idea.

However, there seems to be wiring issues with this vendor. I’ve got an email out to them, but I would hold off buying from this vendor (Affinityadapters) and/or use a multimeter to confirm the wiring before use.

First impressions of Starfield (less then an hour of listening): Warm and bassy with a little bit of sizzle in upper mids and rolled off treble and lack air, sound stuffy at times. Soundstage is small and spacing is uneven, depth and height layering is good; strange presentation at times.

Yes I didn’t quite get the straw myself. But he makes some great stuff.

This little beauty came in yesterday to complete my portable kit. Initial impressions over in the Hip Dac thread.

I look forwards to your complete review. I am finding the opposite, I am really enjoying the Starfield, although I haven’t really done any detailed listening/comparisons yet.

It’s great how we can all have different experiences with the same stuff :+1:

Oh yes, I always find it interesting to hear other listeners findings. Of course my impressions are very limited so they will probably change quite a bit. I never put much stock into first impressions. I must say though, the Starfield are beautiful to behold in person and are rather comfy.

I wonder how it compares to the sound of the Cobalt.

What do you think of the Elear by the way?

Edit: Elegia. My bad

The headphone pictured is actually the Elegia. I don’t have the Elear so I can’t comment on it but I am loving my Elegia. I don’t have the Cobalt but I do have the Dragonfly Red and I did some comparing last night. I prefer the synergy between the Elegia and the Hip Dac over the Dragonfly. The Dragonfly is more analytical and a bit brighter sounding. In my opinion that tips the Elegia from very neural to a little brighter than I would like. The Hip Dac smoothes things out a little bit and gives the Elegia a little warmer, more relaxed sound that I enjoy. The Xbass feature is a bonus because it allows me to add a low end boost which the Elegia benefits from on certain tracks or genres when you want to really feel the bass.

Thanks for the reply. Been curious about Burr-Brown chips for a bit now. I’ve been very quickly stepping away from transparency moving toward a warm, smooth approach to sound. Thinking of going for the Black Label Micro. But it would almost solely be for IEMs so not sure if it’s worth it.

I have an old NAD that has a Burr Brown chip, and those are definitely on the warmer side. Buttery smooth is one way I like to describe them.

I’d say they’re on the opposite end of the Delta Sigma spectrum of where ESS reside (more analytical, but when implemented well can sound fantastic).

The AO1 module in the Cayin N6ii is a Burr-Brown right?

I guess then I can ask you this. What made you to pull the trigger? Instagram ads?

Haha alright then, you win. I’ve low-key wanted an HD 25 for a while already as I do occasionally spin a record or 2, and this limited edition just gave me the final push. Had I not gotten the limited version, it wouldn’t have been an issue. :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember reading a review from another site where a rather respected internet ear stated he was impressed with IFI not because they used the Burr Brown but because they stuck with an older chip set and just nailed its implementation. Ive recently discovered how good the Burr Brown is as DAC only in the Black Label.

It’s an AK I think, Burr Browns seem to be fading out Hopefully Im wrong.

Thanks. I was corrected earlier. The T01 is the Burr-Brown module. It comes with both I think.
