By the way, ZMF will be at Axpona the next 3 days, so there’s a chance that you won’t get a reply until next week.
Good luck with your Aeolus.

Good luck, and I hope it’s not too hard to fix. Still, I’ve worked with a lot of screws…your threads look terrible to my eyes and absolutely not in “good condition.” I’ve had to use die/tap sets to repair threads way, way cleaner and longer than those. Easy test: If you can push the threads into the hole without rotating the threads, they are stripped and fully useless.
The guidance cited by @raindownthunda mentions Vibra-Tite VC3. This is a very different product than ordinary Loctite. Vibra-Tite is quite gummy and never gets rock hard. In contrast, blue Loctite hardens into a firm substance that cracks if ever unscrewed. Red Loctite hardens even more, and usually requires modest heat (at minimum a hair dryer / small flame) to remove.
Yes, ZMF did reply and mentioned that they are short staffed and might be a few days…I just picked up some loctite. I’ll try it and hopefully it will work.![]()
So I can get back to the music…
Thx!
Yeah, I was unable to locate the VC-3(I live in a rural area near a small community) but found the blue 232 loctite. Testing it now…But I do believe the rod is shot…and may need to get a new gimbal also as the threads don’t look so good either. Thanks for your input and advice.
Cheers
Yeah, the thread on the rod that fell out looks pretty bad. I did apply some loctite 232, it held for some use but looks like screwed in a little off. So a temporary fix at best I believe. Will need to replace it, and probably good idea to replace both right? And the gimble looks fine but might as well replace both sides also. I’ll try and loctite it again and see for sure if the same results occur. Thx! I’ll keep everyone updated.

Just use VC-3. I’m in Hawaii and had it from Amazon in like 3 days with regular Prime shipping.
Yes, I ordered on Amazon, 5 days to
Me🙃. Scheduled for Thursday delivery. Thank you!
Aeolus were not to my taste, they are well built and comfortable, but in terms of sound they are over estimated in my opinion,I regret that I didn’t choose the Auteur Classic instead.
It’s not a popular opinion, but I agree with you on that.
I’ve since gotten a Verite Open, Atrium Open, and one of the new Eikons.
To my ears all of them are preferable to the Aeolus, which pains me to say…
And as you can see, I’m a ZMF fanboy by any reasonable definition. ![]()

So, your heart beats a little faster if you listen to this brand ![]()
Nobody needs to apologize if they don’t like the Aeolus. It’s definitely a unique sound signature that doesn’t appeal to all.
But if that signature hits you in the right spot, it’s bliss. Aeolus definitely hits my bull’s-eye.
I agree.
But I think that it has two signatures, and you just have to know which one you like. When I first bought my Aeolus, the Suede Universe pads were recommended, to try to make it as neutral as possible. I hardly ever used it, because I had other headphones that did “neutral plus warmth” better for my preferences. Then someone recommended that I lean into the warmth of the headphones by using the Aeolus pads and that indeed hit me in the right spot.
The original Aeolus pads definitely dial up the fun factor (impact/punch), while the universe suedes make them more a bit more serious and gentler (buttery smooth).
I’ve kept the Aeolus (my first ZMF) around despite acquiring the VC and more recently the AC. I don’t find myself reaching for the Aeolus nearly as often, but when I do I like them best with the Bottlehead Crack. The high output impedance + tubes energize the Aeolus drivers to their full potential. IMO enjoying the Aeolus is about leaning into their strengths, rather than trying to make the Aeolus something they are not (detail-monster, soundstage queen, sub-bass champ, etc). I think they can sound fairly boring with the wrong amp.
I can understand why one would prefer other ZMF’s (as I do most days)… but there’s something sweet and captivating to me about the Aeolus + tubes that makes me feel like I’m transported to a nostalgic happy place from an easier, more carefree time in life.
Update: the VC-3 finally arrived (7days), and used it on the new rods I received from Zach. (In which he included an ample supply of VC-3). Man being exposed to true customer service is a refreshing experience. I was treated like I just bought a new pair of Calderas.
So I left them to dry for an about a week as I went out of town. And so far so good. The rod was the issue. Of this persists, I was given the option of send them in for a rod/yoke install. Might do that anyway for a like new tune-up… I thank everyone who contributed to my newbie dilemma. Thanks and cheers. I now have had a real chance of listening to them for more than. 20 minute stint. And they are what I was hoping for. I’ll admit, if I had a million dollars, I’d surely pick up the Autuer…but for now, I’ll enjoy these.
Glad that it worked out! Their customer service is excellent, sounds like all’s well that ends well! ![]()
P.S. You don’t need $1M, just $1,500 for a new Auteur… ![]()
Maybe someday!
You are exactly correct! Thx buddy.

Aeolus was not for me, they was incredible comfortable and beautiful made, but they fall short in sound compared to my Sennheisers so I sold them.
If anyone can help. I emailed but no reply. I am having an issue uploading photos to sell this aeolus anyone I can talk to? So I can post it in th proper place.
That’s a nice Aeolus, what wood is it?
Looks like Cocobolo to me. It’s a beautiful pair for sure!
