ZMF MICHANIKÓS cable 4-pin XLR Eidolic. I liked the blue cable cover with the Rose Gold splitter. I already had a Cardas Cross 1/4" cable.

The Aeolus is a great starting point in the ZMF lineup. You can go more neutral with Auteur, more fun with Atticus & Eikon, more expensive with Verite.

What say the ZMF crowd, I have the Aeolus and love them, had my friends Verite closed for a couple of weeks and loved those also, I was going to get Verite closed eventually when I can get it in a special wood but lichie has some Auteurs in Black wood that I am very interested in, so,wait and step way up for Verite closed or do you think the Auteurs have a sound quality that will pull me in?

My favorite ZMF headphones are the Auteur. I like the Eikon and Verite C more for techno, or as a change of pace, but for everything else the Auteur wins.
Blackwood is also the best Auteur, followed by Cocobolo, IMO. That super dense wood is just so good for a slightly improved sense of decay and snappiness.
So… With that said, it depends on your preferences and what kind of music you listen to. I think Verite does have a better sense of stage and speed as well as more bass, but the Auteur has a better/more even freq response and tonality from top to bottom. Honestly, your chain matters a lot too. I don’t think the Auteur sound stellar out of most budget opamp designed amps. I preferred my Aeolus over the Auteur from my office modi/magni stack, for example.

Is it the “warmth” of the Aeolus that lends to its forgiveness?
I don’t know, to be honest. I’m inclined to think it has a little to do with it. I can hear detail better in cymbals than in bass lines, regardless of the headphone, so maybe it’s just how the brain perceives things. Maybe the driver has characteristics that just synergize better with that amp. I don’t know.
Anyway… The Aeolus isn’t an unresolving headphone. (Because double negatives are fun.) It has detail. It also scales with better gear. I just like the Auteur more.

The sparkle, or detail in the cymbals may have something to do with the beryllium in the drivers. If I remember correctly, Aeolus and Verite are the only two ZMF lines that incorporate those drivers.

Aeolus doesn’t have a Beryllium coated driver. That’s unique to the Vérité models.
I believe the driver in the Aeolus is the same proprietary TPE unit as in the Atticus.

The Aeolus is really something…still my favorite all a rounder in the under $1300 range, but the Clears and LCD-X are also great buys, especially when on sale! Honestly kind of miss my Clears a little bit…
I would say my top favorites are boutique ZMF and more mainstream Focal.
Focal has fantastic design, and ZMF has that Unique heirloom wood charm! I love the look of both modern and contemporary.

my “local” german ZMF distributor takes a fair amount of extra on the headphones… I have no problem with it - we all have to pay billls …however… a standard Aoelos is a bit over the original price of the Focal Clears. The Blackwood with my loved shiny grill is over 1700€ … so I still have to save up a bit
I love Focal and know the Clears… prefered the Elegia over it. Especially with my mediocre DAC/Amps - beeing ifi xDSD and SMSL SU-8 with THX AAA 789
if I save up for the Aeolus, I have to add the cost for a OTL build or the Eddie Current - from what I read it´s worth it. Want that craftsmanship, look and timbre
There are now the HEDDphone(listened to the prototype at munich high end) and the Arya - both would need a better DAC/Amp. Again budget would have to be even higher… so the Aoelus is logically the next step up.

Yeah, they had basically only gotten a couple of hrs of listening time after getting the Aeolus and Verite O/C…
Also…almost nothing is getting head time now that I have the Jotunheim R on my desk with my RAAL SR1A…Fcuk me! If you like the Clears/HD800s/LCD-X/Utopia/etc…then absent hearing the HEDDPhones the SR1A is the current king of this sound signature! *my opinion not a fact 
But even so, the ZMF line is still in my opinion the king of Tone! They are just a joy to melt into and forget what your day is about…
The other funny thing, as much as I’m romanticizing the SR1A and ZMF… I still love the other headphones I have… @Resolve has the right of it… there is no such thing as a “perfect” headphone… there are great all around ones that are exceptional…basically all the headphones listed above plus or minus some more I haven’t listed. Then there are ones that are exceptional in specific areas which are an experience of an to themselves…HD800 with a nice OTL tube amp. Fostex TH-X00 for some bass, or the LCD series. Or some niche gaming headphones for… well gaming use cases LCD-GX/Sennheiser PC37X/Vokyl Erupts/etc.
This hobby is amazing in how depending on the combos of gear you have access to, depends on the multiple of different experiences you can have from it based on synergy…bananas! One could waste weeks/months/years playing with the synergy of all these awesome headphones new and old… let alone DACs and amps!
EDIT: or the king of entry into audiophilia KOSS PORTA PROS w/YAXI PADS!!! lol
