Just a general thanks for your videos. Always enjoyable.

But, since Zack teased the November specials by giving us a quick glance at his ā€œNovember wallā€ I have been counting the days. Today is the 2nd

Thank you! They are a great way to have more of a community chat =) I enjoy the interactions a lot! I’ll try and get some live streams together for this week as well =)

What day they dropping?

Nice! Just a bit sad that it’s around 12 to 3 AM or so here in Finland when the streams are up. Great streams and it was nice tour of Zach’s and Bevin’s new shop.

Not sure days dropping but from what I hear it’ll probably be before black friday

I’m thinking of purchasing an Aeolus or Atticus - not sure about open vs. closed. Is there anyone in the Seattle area that has one or both that I might be able to work out a way to listen to them?

I have both. What would you like to know about them?

@SleepyRhythms - Thanks for reaching out. I’m all in on them but before spending the $$ I’m hoping to find a way to listen. I currently have a Dan Clark Audio Aeon 2 Closed and the Focal Elegia (I couldn’t resist it at the discounted price a couple of months ago).

The Aeon2 has become my go to and I really like it. The Elegia, I use it on occasion and it will probably become my office headphone if it ever opens again, I’m just not all that excited about it.

I tend to get stern looks from the family when listening to a closed-back - the Elex and Sundara have come and gone - and I have my HD600 when I’m feeling nostalgic.

So that brings me to the ZMF, I haven’t read or seen a negative thing about them and I love the craftmanship. I’m leaning towards the Aeolus as an open headphone - and I could deal with the stern looks as I now have a good setup in the other room with my Lyr3 and Modius.

I just can’t decide open vs. closed and I’d love to be able to listen to both just to confirm they are for me. My go-to is alternative (Killers, Vampire Weekend), rock (Queen, Elton John, Eagles, Michael Franti, Foo Fighters, The Struts), and then lots of 80s (Depeche Mode, Erasure, INXS, Housemartins). If you are a SiriusXM listener, I rotate through ā€œThe Spectrumā€ (Ch 28), ā€œAltNationā€ (Ch 36), and ā€œFirstWaveā€ (Ch 33) when in radio mode.

So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

This isn’t very helpful when it comes to which headphone to pick, but since we have almost 100% overlap in musical taste, I just wanted to mention that you might like The Verge (Ch 173 on SiriusXM), which plays Canadian alternative, mostly guitar-oriented.

Yes I know. Hard to articulate which is why I’m hopeful I can find a way to hear for myself. I’ll know then.

I’ll give the Verge a listen. Thanks for the tip.

Atticus leans much more into a bassy, fun time full of energy. The first thing you’ll notice is a very full mid bass in an unusually wide stage for a closed back. Songs like Come Together from The Beatles sound smooth and epic. It’s a slightly girthy sounding headphone I find satisfying when in the mood for strong male vocals, the cellos of people like Yo-Yo Ma, and music having a nice emphasis around the bottom end of the spectrum. This is not something that would normally appeal to someone looking for intimately soulful listening sessions. I had some very emotional times on this headphone using the Ori suede pads though. Going through Abbey Road deluxe had me seriously choking up listening, especially in the extras after the main album was over. Mids come across having a moderate amount of body despite what you might think from seeing FR graphs. Everything from the vocals of Susan Wong to the weighty voice Avi Kaplan sound great. The tuning does favor lower mids by a lot keep in mind. Treble is detailed but soft. This is a kind sounding headphone probably meant for people that like to turn their rock up a bit too much. Zero complaints about detail. I’m surprised to say the Atticus has a wider stage than the Aeolus at the expense of not being as deep. The dynamics are still well separated; just expect drums to sound BIG. I’ve dearly loved the Atticus as my favorite closed back for 16 months.

Aeolus: This is a really special sounding headphone. Mids are absolutely something to be adored walking a middle ground between the centered forwardness of 6X0 headphones and the purity of Focal. It’s a remarkable well done mid range freely playing around in a holographic soundstage. Truly magic! Like being right under the edge of coming off as forward, and sounding far beyond what I’d previously considered perfect. It was a bar raising moment hearing these for the first time that won’t be surpassed any time soon. This is all topped by a very open sounding treble pleasantly outlining everything in songs, creating a well defined yet non fatiguing image when you close your eyes taking in what’s going on in the recording. Bass in contrast to the rest of what makes up the sound of the Aeolus feels like a welcomed stranger adding an extra bit of kick to an otherwise ethereal tuning. It has a very confident slam in its macro dynamics somehow not ending up being bloated. Zach is a wizard of some sorts lol. Aeolus is a safer all rounder headphone in my opinion as an energetic fun time not picky of music genre.

TL;DR - Comparing the Atticus and Aeolus is like thinking of Godzilla vs Mothra.

I think either Zmf choice will be a good choice.

Hello All.
Different question here.
I have tried emailing Zach and Team about a custom set of headphones (different type of wood for the Verite) several times, both through the site and the zmfheadphones@gmail.com email address and I am not getting any response. I have been attempting to contact them for about 2 weeks now. I know they are very busy but I am not getting any response. I have even checked my junk folder to see if it was getting kicked but it is not. Are others having this issue?
