Funny how I’m in the same boat as you. I have the Noires and love them but I have to often tell myself they’re great headphones instead of naturally being happy with them. I like them and they’re better than what I’ve had before but I’m not amazed. Every time I hear someone review the Verite it’s always describing what I’m looking for. Oppose to a HE1000se, HD 800s, or an Elite that have one amazing feature, but is never described as something you’d enjoy every day. They’re always talked about as a tool to analyze music, but the Vertite is always described as “musical”. The reviewers always seem excited about them.

Haven’t heard the Noire. I had the Aeon Flow open-back planar. IMO it’s a jack of all trades/master of none: fun, musically tuned/voiced, but not particularly resolving or dynamic. Heard the Ether 2 a couple years ago and thought that was a higher-level execution of the same basic sound, good but not great.

I own the Verite Open & had both the VO and VC in my system on loan in late 2019. Beside the fact these are dynamics and the DCAs are planars (dynamics & planars sound somewhat different), I regard both Verites as the highest-level, most beautifully tuned all-rounders I’ve ever heard.

The VC has somewhat punchier bass & impressive dynamics, while the VO has exceptional beauty of tone; they share an unusual combination of high resolution, speed, and musicality. I can’t find any music that doesn’t sound terrific on the VO. The last thing I would call either Verite is a specialist headphone.

There are headphones designed as analytical tools, and we benefit from them in terms of excellent recording quality. But I don’t want to live with a forensic music tool like that…I want to live with a headphone that opens a window into the sound of music in a real space.

The list is long, distinguished, and sick to death of bleepity blanking Frozen.

I’ve ordered the past 2 years. 1 took 5 weeks, the other 7-8. I think they are more likely to be built and complete than some others which are new and go through the whole process from scratch, though the stabilized sure look like at least everything but the drivers are ready. It seems like they sold a ton compared to other years so I’d say assume the 12 weeks and if they arrive sooner, then happy day!

Daughter 23. But (bonus time!!!) I did research to determine the optimum number of sparkles should be on My Little Pony…

Has anybody used the touch-up pen ZMF sells on their aluminum chassis. I assume it is more often used on the painted magnesium chassis that can be chipped more easily, but I have a few tiny spots I’d like to address on my aluminum gimbals. I ordered one, but if it’s not very effective on anodized aluminum I may cancel the order before it ships out.

daughters 31, 34, 37 and 39 they were my research panel

A small update. Just made a headphone purchase and thought I’d defray the cost by maybe selling my Aeolus. So let’s just put on the new Bruce No Nukes CD and confirm that the Aeolus doesn’t bring anything different to the VC/Utopia/HD800S party.

That started a multi-hour listening/comparison session that convinced me I’d be an idiot to sell the Aeolus. I thought of it as a little brother to the VC but the signature is so different - more immediate, and yes, more fun. Not putting down the VCs at all, just stunned how different two pairs could be when I thought of them as near-identical.

Now I gotta buy another headphone stand…

Nice and enjoy. This lines up with Zach’s recent comments that the various ZMF headphone designs and tunings were intended to be a part of a collection rather than comprise different tiers, which I found to be informative.

I used to own a VC and Eikon. The RAD-0 currently hits my sweet spot, with the Senn HD 580 Black Silk as a complement. I do wonder which ZMF might be an appropriate addition - likely between the Eikon and Aeolus.

Where does one buy it? I don’t see it on their website.

You have to send an email to support@zmfheadphones.com to get the touch-up pen. They don’t list it on the website for some reason.

I’m sure all of you on the email list have seen this, but here it is for the stabilized:

I don’t know if there have been many stabilized releases for headphones other than the VC in the past, but some of these are glorious.

The new chassis colors are a nice touch:

My favorite:

And, finally, the Malick is a beauty. I’m guessing its name refers to Terence Malick, he of Tree of Life fame, given that this is an Auteur. Nice!

I was super tempted to replace my desert ironwood with this one, which would look amazing paired with my future DNA Stellaris. Fortunately for my wallet, though, it seems to be the first one that sold.

That stabilized set is really beautiful. But ironwood has a different kind of beauty–the natural grain and figure of hardwood, unaided by additional colors.

Pretty as that stabilized is (they’re all very pretty), I’d take ironwood any day of the week.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure I was REALLY willing to part with my ironwoods, but I was hella tempted. I was actually thrilled when I clicked and it was gone already - saved me the Sophie’s Choice dilemma. lol
