Yeah. I wasn’t expecting to love a green pair but they were gorgeous. I have a pair of VO coming soon enough but I just really loved how those looked.
Had my heart set on Sonora - made it to payment but then it was gone before I could enter my details. Seeing how fast those went, I can’t imagine that it’s even worth waiting another six months when they’ll be even more popular. I’ll probably get the olive VC now I think. It’s almost hilarious how gutted I am - my whole week was building up to this moment. I feel like I just missed a penalty in the cup final!
I decided not to go for it, but the aster is the most gorgeous headphone I have ever seen.
I bought a different headphone elsewhere today and decided that was enough.
Don’t get into collecting limited all analog record reissues as the disappointment of missing something happens on a weekly basis. Lol. Sooner or later the hype will die down on these stabilized headphones as Zach will keep pumping them out and finally meet the demand. Have patience and it will definitely work out. I’d be amazed if Zach isn’t working on a batch of like 100 and if he isn’t he is totally missing out of a big payday. If I were him I’d also bump them up another $200-300.
Out of interest, what did you go for? The Aster was very nice.
The coccinati is the one I would have gone for - that swirling red & yellow is just stunning. Honestly, though, I could not possibly be happier with my desert ironwood VO, so no regrets.
LSA HP-2. Which is a copy of the kennerton gjallahorn. Which are the only two horn loaded headphones in existence I think. And I couldn’t resist that uniqueness for some reason. Also, WAY WAY less money than the VC. And doesn’t require new amps to drive (as the VC would). Remarkably well reviewed by a few sources I trust.
I would actually bet that he’s not. He screams “super crazy craftsmen” to me. And there is probably a limit to the time and attention he can pay to each unit, and is unwilling to reduce that to make a batch of 100 work. Obviously, just a guess. But, if anything, I think his batch sizes are shrinking slightly.
Fourteen of the Stabilized VC went quick. The last eleven took a bit longer. Under 20 minutes is pretty good, although it could have been 10 minutes.
Luxury goods often have a small market size, and the vendors know how many items typically sell. Ferrari and Mini are known to build fewer cars than they could sell, as meeting demand leads to lower retail prices. This high-end combat knife company used to release products one-by-one and then move on to another, with constantly changing model names. Then I guess the market became saturated, as they now sell pretty standard models all the time.
It’s probably best for business if ZMF has slow deliveries and produces only small batches.
My girlfriend was sitting with me and timed it - they were all gone in five minutes.
Yeah, they do look really cool. I actually have the regular Gjallarhorn and although they’re meant to be tuned quite differently, they’re really awesome. Congrats.
How many stabilized VC’s have they put out so far since November? 50?75? Is this the second or third run?
100 is still considered a small batch in most business models. With how long it takes to make them I’d be surprised if he isn’t really growing ZMF’s new workshop and hopefully after the pandemic more workers.(I thought he talked about this, bringing a n more workers hopefully soon.
I envision Zmf getting bigger but staying boutique. There is tons of room to grow with still being a small business
I was able to pull up stuff on the ZMF page at the five- ten minutes mark. Maybe they weren’t checked out yet (paid)? Fourteen of them were gone in two minutes. When I came back from letting the dog out, they were all gone.
I was thinking about the Iberico…those went right away.
Pretty much everything was gone within a minute or less. I think Cinder went last.
That was the two flavor pair.
Yup, I don’t care for the mismatched ones so I could see why it’d linger.
I checked at 7:02 and only 4 were left, a minute later only 2, and at 7:04 it was all gone.
Hopefully you’re right, but patience never was my strong suit! Will be pulling the trigger on the olive wood VC I think.
Zach seems like a good dude - I think he’s an audiophile and a craftsman first and a businessman second. I don’t think he’d raise prices just because he can (and I think you’re right, he could if he wanted to).
