5db bass shelf! I must not be a bass head as I think it’s already pretty good with the be2 pads.
It’s more like a 2-3db shelf because I lower midbass as well. It’s a subbass shelf. Also Im gaining the uppermids so adding more bass balanced out the gain elsewhere.
This basically is a quick version of the harman 2013 in room speaker compensation target like what resolve posted above
@perogie do you have the perforated lamb skin on hand to try?
All of my VO pads are perforated lamb skin.
You looking for them for review? I got all 3 of the usual suspects.
Oh ok! No I have those coming for the review unit being sent to me and also @TylersEclectic unit I am listening to now has them. I was just curious.
No problem. I’ve always favoured the lamb skin as I wasn’t interested in seude related attenuation. Zach says even the hybrids have it as well.
Yes I find more bass on be2 vs uni. Also I got rid of the foam cover on the pads to get more treble and it didn’t make them sibilant.
I didn’t see the be2 listed on zmf site. I’d like to order a pair and take the foam grilles out. suede or hybrid sounds comfy, wouldn’t want to lose any treble tho.
Zach refers to it as secret menu here: https://www.zmfheadphones.com/zmfpads.
Maybe try emailing him.
More specifically they are selected under the Verite option; https://www.zmfheadphones.com/pads-and-cables/zmf-auteur-pads-3wtwc
Yeah the link says auteur, but trust me takes you to the Verite page
A lot of people have trouble finding the BE2 on the site for some reason. @TylersEclectic has an in with Zach, maybe he can let him know that folks are having trouble finding the BE2 pads and can adjust the WWW to make it more obvious.
Are you talking about the foam backing that sits right over the driver? Did you do it to all the pads or just specific ones?
Uni pad with a bit more treble may be interesting but I wonder if there would be other effects from it that I may not like. Plus my ears are big and sometimes touch the lining, dont think I would like the feeling of my ears up against the driver housing if I removed that backing material.
Might be a mod to try down the road though.
They are a secret menu item as I recall… just order any pads then in the notes request Be2 pads
You can add to the tube confusion by trying 5963, 5965A, and 6201 vacuum tubes. Great subs for the 12A_7 tubes. Some of these were used in computers.
They are in a pull down menu, at least when I ordered mine. Just not obvious to find them.
Truth. I’m quite happy with my Mazda 6201/12AT7WA military spec. I also have had good experience with lower gain tubes such as 5965, 7062, and a Dario Miniwatt 18ECC in particular. In confusion, there is beauty/variety/opportunity. I’m not familiar with 5963 but will be on the lookout, thanks.
5963 is similar to 12AU7. Voltage ratings are a bit different.
Thanks for the heads up and passing along - helpful resources. It looks like there are RCA, Sylvania, and Tung Sol 5963 offerings. I’m more familiar with 6350 as a lower gain alternative to 12AU7.
Hmmm… I do recall that now… I’ll try and find and link direct to it!
Go to Verite pads and they are in the drop down menu there under material type… so still a hidden menu item lol
