ENJOY and hope it works!!
AND a big thank you to @Audiophile
@Audiophile thank you so so much never even used that Qobuz Web Player is it ‘better’ than using the desktop app i use or it it essentially the same?
I use Qobuz with an Aurender in my system, so I don’t really use a desktop or web player per say. Aurender has what’s called a Conductor App which works seamlessly with Qobuz. Note: If you don’t have an Aurender it will not work for you.
The only time I may use the Qobuz App is to add to one of my playlists - but the Conductor App allows this too, so I don’t use the Qobuz app much. And the only time I use the Qobuz Web Player is when I’m sharing a Playlist.
But your question is an intriguing one. Which is better? Which is better in Apple or PC as well? Is there more or less noise one way or the other? These would be good questions for someone to research.
How do you like aurender?
Aurender is awesome +++
It’s essentially a computer, but they’ve done a lot to get rid of noise, etc. It’s very reliable and their App is great. I love the pics on the albums, etc. They are coming out with an iPhone App later this year. It is fabulous.
This said. Roon is very good as well. From what I understand right now Aurender lacks true Roon compatibility. Roon has many nice features, such as bio links, conversion to higher hi Rez sample rates, an eq function, etc. However there is a $600 lifetime subscription to consider - and I’m questioning what streaming services will even be available next year, much less 10 years from now, will the interfaces on new streamers work, etc.
This said, I went with Aurender as I like its sound quality and interface more in my specific system. I like the way it looks as well - in the pic middle shelf on left side. But if Roon and Aurender ever get on the same page I’ll probably supplement the Aurender with a Roon - but will maintain the Aurender too.
I’m currently considering an Aurender A30 which is Caching Music Server / Streamer / CD Ripper / HDD Storage / Full MQA Decoder DAC / Headphone Amplifier. But it is very pricey … Since I already have a great DAC in the Luxman SACD, I may go with the Aurender ACS10.
@Audiophile I like ROON especially this new ver 1.7 in some ways it makes Qobuz ‘sound better’ purely subjective of course but your system is much more ‘complex’ than mine and looks beautiful but you have pretty much all the components I have. My ‘server’ is a late 2012 Mac mini i7 with 16GB RAM with new 4TB samsung SSD HD and have done all the ‘ripping’ I ever want to do( 2 entire NFL seasons of 800+ CDs DVD-As and SACDs into a Mac CD player!!- never again) but I do still have connected to my system a Yamaha cd/dvd-a,sacd changer and those discs sound far better than any streaming music(IMHO) but who wants to do that much anymore-also have an HDCD changer to listen to my DEAD collection. I don’t experience ‘noise’ that I can detect and my old ME2 and new Yggdrasil GS through my new Ragnarok 2 to my older ears sound great. I bought that ‘lifetime’ subscription at 499$ to ROON and my CFO asked “what does that mean at your age?” but it has paid for itself already.
What speakers are those? Mine are Legacy Audio HD Studio monitors and that Schiit amp is really one schiitload of a headphone amp.
Thanks again for your exquisite directions guess it worked and @MRHifiReviews is very pleased.
@bobbmd Roon is nice. I can see why you enjoy it. Roon works and sounds fanatic. It does sound better than streaming like just over a computer, etc. The Aurender that I use works in much the same way to help reduce noise as well.
My Mac mini isn’t hooked up to my audio system at all. I use it solely on my TV - 75" monitor We did some testing on the Mac and it does bring in some noise on the audio system. So my so-called computer for the audio system is the Aurender.
And I agree on the CD/SACD sound. They are much better than streaming. There is always noise coming in from the ethernet cable and with the Mac mini depending upon the type of hard drive in it. Even with a AQVox SE switch and GigafoilV4 Filter [worthwhile purchases, but some use an Uptone EtherREGEN instead of the AQVox SE] to reduce the noise - greatly - there is still ethernet noise. Honestly, you don’t know how much noise there is until these two devices are connected and it’s no longer there. The difference is night and day.
My speakers are Magico A3s. Hoping for some Magico M3s later.
Ok this is kind of a Qobuz question pairing with DAC’s. For my desktop Dac, I have an SMSL SU8 V2 and while I read it measures well and overall it has been ok for me especially at the price I paid. Once I switched to Qobuz it has been driving me absolute friggin nuts every time the audio quality switches and there is a loud audible click and drop in audio between tracks. I have read it’s just an issue with the DAC which I wish I would have known about prior to purchasing it. You live and you learn…So for the love of music can someone recommend some solid Desktop Dac options in a few different price points that this won’t happen with when listening to Qobuz?
Current feeling toward smsl SU8
Is there a way in Audioirvana with Qobuz to save music for offline listening? I know there is in Qobuz… Am I just missing it in Audoirvana?
Nope.
Offline listening is only supported by the native clients for Qobuz (and TIDAL).
=( I was afraid you would say this…
It’s a limitation imposed by the rights holders on the streaming companies. So you’re not going to find a legitimate player that allows it. And any illegitimate ones that do are likely to have their API keys revoked the second they are discovered.
No worries… I get it, I think that means I still need to replace my SMSL-SU8 DAC then as my desktop setup. I really would like to be able to listen to some stuff offline at times without hearing audible clicks and drops in the music. Audioirvana has been great, and I will buy for sure. Sometimes though I want to listen offline and not use any bandwidth when uploading or downloading large work projects (photo/video)
I was able to send the SU-8 back with full refund after 6 months ownership, last week
Wrote about the issues you mentioned
I have cancelled my qobuz free test period by end of january
Soundquality is higher vs Tidal Masters vs Amazon HD vs Spotify Premium
The qobuz app was the worst to use though
I missed many songs and the search function is weak
Will miss the interesting articles
With 25 Euro/month or 199/year- I wait for a better deal
Had often hickups in the streams- it never happened with the other streaming services and I have top connections everywhere
In the Android app USB Audio Player Pro- these hickups did not appear
On my Laptop (Windows 10), the Android Tablet qobuz app and the iPhone 11 app- quite often a buffering in songs and no reaction on inputs
Qobuz used with:
RME ADI 2 fs (v2) or ifi xDSD as DAC
or via Bluetooth connection to ifi xDSD, ES100 and Fiio BTR3
I wait a few months and keep an eye on qobuz
Really!? Where did you purchase from? @MartinTransporter at this point that’s what I want to do but I doubt Apos Audio will allow that.
Ama…on germany - it was the only place back then, except directly ordering in china
Nice one… I emailed APOS about a week ago. They said SMSL is on Chinese New Year and don’t expect to hear back for weeks.
Good luck with it!
I decided to add Qobuz add augment my collection and Apple Music/iTunes, sound quality is good.
I only ran into one band that had limited availability “The Lumineers” Cleopatra (Deluxe) and a few more of there albums. I can slum it on Apple Music to fill in gaps like these.
I am on the Apple Music Family plan since the family is deep into the Apple ecosystem now.
I too have been sampling the delights of Qobuz on a trial basis. I have come to the conclusion that as a full time Spotify user it sounds much better to my ears. I also don’t have to use any EQ on my U18t’s. I only seem to have to use EQ whilst using Spotify. Anyhow regardless I just can’t justify the extra cost of moving over from Spotify much as I would like to. Plus all of my playlists and offline library of albums and songs are just too much of a hassle to mess with.
