You’re a pen collector?! Nice! I just got two new pens along with Colorverse Supernova and Quasar. The last ink has a beautiful copper sheen. What do you spend the most time using? I know Taron’s brother, Andrew, likes the Lamy 2000.

To a certain extent.

I’ll have to look those two up.

As of late, when writing for pleasure (mostly letters to my wife), it’s been between a Parker Duofold and a Montblanc 149. A lot of my collection is older stuff.

MB 149 is legendary. Good choice. The Duofold I know nothing about, but it’s mentioned frequently in the community. Enjoy your awesome pens!

I’ll post some piccies on the morrow.

I knew nothing about pens when I bought the Duofold … this was pre-public-internet days. I just liked writing, pens and it was REALLY pretty.

The 149 is an interesting piece. Needs careful ink/paper selection or it can get VERY wet (and results in lots of feathering and ridiculous drying times). Super-smooth. Easy to modulate line width. Feels great in the hand. Nearly gave up on it … but glad I didn’t.

Sonics:

  1. KSC75 with Yaxi or quarter mod. Most clarity and openness.
  2. Porta-Pros. For those seeking warmer tone and more bass.
  3. KPH30i. Nothing noteworthy.

Comfort, build, function:

  1. KPH30i. Least awkward design. It has a microphone.
  2. Porta-Pros. There is a version with a microphone.
  3. KSC75. Parts Express headband helps.

I actually don’t much care for headphones or IEM’s, i use them very sparingly, but i do like gadgets and interesting things which is a class they fall into thus i must own a bunch.
I keep boxes, all the boxes, i stuff boxes into boxes assuring myself that i will one day use them again, especially if i ever manage to sell something.
I own Hard sided cases, many many hard sided cases…they are better than boxes when you need to ship things. Thus i know i have a problem since i can’t bring myself to throw away most boxes.
As i get older i find myself looking to things made well in the past and having a preference for them many times over newer, ā€œbetterā€ items. I am a particular sucker for old items that come with the original packaging especially when they have a box…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

… I listen to Spotify way more than I do lossless…

I enjoy non-audiophile music more … (honestly I think ā€œaudiophileā€ music is anything mastered and recorded well, and we should stop shoe horning classical, jazz, blues, etc into ā€œaudiophileā€ music ha"

Wait, since when were Blues included? Leave my beloved Blues out of that bunch of wackos, please.

I totally agree with this sentiment though.

I do love me some good blues! But, to be fair… I love all genres of music… I care more about the individual songs and how they elicit a response from me than I do what genre they fall under =)

I was having a related conversation with my son (18) yesterday.

For the majority of music that I loved back when I was around his age, I find that I have to use lower quality headphones/IEMs and mostly use Spotify because on a decent set up it all sounds like s***.

I knew you were a closeted country fan all along. Nothing like having the absolute best in sonic fidelity to listen to ā€œRed Solo Cupā€

I confess that I don’t love all genres of music. I can’t rank the dislike, but

  • Country Music ā€œProductā€ (this is not REAL country, like Osborne Brothers, Flat & Scruggs, and traditional bluegrass. I grew up in central Missouri in the 60s).

  • Anything Avant-Garde done by Yoko Ono in the 1970-2075 period

  • Rock with Artsy-Fartsy pretentions. (Except possibly Iggy Pop). This means you, Iron Butterfly, and even Tool

For sure, can I add, Cash, Merle, Marty Robbins, Watson etc…But I just enjoy the musicianship of the bluegrass instrumentalist.
