Corona-virus (Covid-19) Discussion

Living in Canada and especially in Ontario I think there is somewhat of an understanding of what this means. So far, I think the feds have handled it alright and the local citizenry have yet to completely lose their s*** over it. However, I live in an area and work in a hospital that hasnt had a confirmed case so who knows what happens when that does occur. I was on the front lines of SARS back in the day, I could be in a similar situation again very shortly.

I think about a lot of things relative to this: some of them from a professional standpoint, some from the personal, some thoughts are altruistic (I hope), some very selfish.

Yes, here in France all schools and universities are closed and starting at midnight time all shops, cinemas, bars, museums will close. Reduced transportation.

Borders in Europe are also closing. Waiting for the official details next hours.

Working in medical field, future times seem not really easy

I am friends with my county’s first positive patient! He’s out of the hospital and doing fine, but woah.

And my wife believes she has a positive patient and is waiting for test results. This is getting real!

EDIT: Hadnt seen seen my friend for weeks prior to him getting sick. Don’t worry I’m not a vector.

It’ll get rougher before it gets better, but I honestly feel that we’ll come out stronger than before.

Just a hunch.

I agree entirely. But, um…in the meantime, everybody should avoid looking at their 401k. :joy::sweat_smile::disappointed_relieved::scream:

Will be good training for the world when we get bigger storm cells in the near future.

Our winter storms here at the north sea coast have all been getting longer and longer (up to a week now).

Same over here in the US, non-stop. It’s driving people into the ‘hysteria’ level. As the news organizations just are 24/7 nonstop (end of the world virus hype). And this is significantly hurting the economy’s of the world. Amid all of the other stuff going on, all sporting events have been canceled indefinitely or postponed, (soccer, hockey, basketball, soon to be baseball, racing etc.). Most of the schools in America are closed or closing for atleast the rest of the month if not longer(which affects all working families) and for whatever reason there has been a hoarding of toilet paper (which is something I have to have and go through a lot of because of my condition) they are literally out of toilet paper at ALL of are local stores(completely empty shelves) which the toilet paper thing makes no sense to me at all. I mean I can see people going crazy over cleaning supplies like Lysol disinfectant or items like hand sanitizer but toilet paper!?!? WTF. Places Like Disneyland and DisneyWorld are closing for atleast the rest of the month(first time in Disneyland’s history that it will be closed for so long) already the three big airlines(Delta, American Airlines, United)are asking for a bailout to stay in business. It is absolutely insane. The US economy has lost over 20% of its value in less than two weeks.

Yes the Coronavirus has been classified as a pandemic by WHO (world health organization) it does have a higher mortality rate then the 1918 major pandemic that killed an estimated 50 million plus(1918 pandemic had a mortality rate of 2% and the corona virus has a “claimed” mortality rate of 3.4%) yes it is definitely something to be aware of but this has reached the level of insanity.

Now I do have to be careful as I am on the high risk list, because of my autoimmune disease and the immuno suppressants I am currently on.

Lol I know right !?!?

I swear it seems like toilet paper is going to be the new currency lol :roll_of_toilet_paper: = :dollar: :euro: :pound: :yen:

But in all seriousness it would be interesting to find out who/why started this toilet paper hoarding/panic buying.

One thing I find interesting, it seems that individuals for the most part can be calm and use a common sense thought process to understand, make rational decisions, and work things out. Though once people are in a large group, it seems like common sense goes away and the “panic” mentality can set in.

Possible story:
One guy got 3 packs, one for himself, two for his elderly neighboor who isn’t as agile anymore.
Someone saw that and got 4, next guy 5 and so on.
Of course someone posted it to (a)social media and now the world hoards toilet paper…

I admit to buying an extra box of TP. Why? Because everybody else is, and I don’t want to wipe my ass with newspaper or leaves.

It’s natural human behavior to try to protect yourself from the mob.

We’ve seen panic buying in TP, Pasta, canned goods. I can report nobody has been selling out of cottage cheese. With that, I present this for your education:

I have thought about that myself, putting money in to take advantage of the market dip; however, I got to balance that with the possibility I may go a period of time without working if they ramp down the hospital I work at. Market won’t matter if I cant make my mortgage payment.
