I think the hip-dac and Celestee have excellent synergy if that is what you are looking for. I swapped stock cables and used the Celestee balanced (I usually do if I have the opportunity to).
Easily balanced, but I think it should have no problem unbalanced.
Same applies to the Go Blu. I would encourage you thinking about your use case and how you will be using your product of choice over worrying too much on Bluetooth vs wired. Practiciality gets my personal vote above all else, and to me, that vote goes to the Go Blu.
The Go Blu sounds a bit more “tubey” and that is it’s main difference signature wise vs the hip-dac.
Both excellent choices for the Celestee either way, our house sound from the ZEN line to the hip/go does really with Focal’s more equally fun sound heapdhones in general.
Crinacle is probably the best person to answer that question; one voice among many. Beyond that, if you are considering, cast a wider net for opinions or buy where you can test for yourself and return if not happy. Otherwise, who knows. Different strokes for folks…
I am a qudelix advocate and it can drive lots of stuff on balanced. I have an ifi go blu on pre-order and would expect it to be able to drive your celestee very well (haven’t heard the celestee). At a guess, I would say the ifi go blu would fit the celestee better based on ifi house sound and what I have read about celestee.
Ifi’s house sound is absolutely my favorite (ifi idsd micro signature is fantastic). So, having a qudelix comparable mobile offering from them is super exciting for me.
Completely agree with @Dynamic on this. My ifi go blu is on its way as well and I hope to have it tomorrow (and can try with the Elegia, not quite but as close as I can get).
for edm/dance style music, single player video games and other media such as movies, would the focal celestee or the lcd-2 fazor offer more impressive bass in regards to overall bass quality and bass slam/impact? and which overall would you recommend between the two for the uses i mentioned?
Gee, @AceofSpades but even though I am very careful to not get carpal tunnel, I just hate those Dali-esque “ergonomic” keyboards. Use a wrist rest, a good mechanical keyboard, ditch the mouse and buy a logitech trackball.
Received the Celestee last week to compliment my Focal Clears. I listen to them on my Topping a50s-d50s stack, also use them on my Ifi hip dac. They do sound very good on both, I love the clarity and punchiness of the bass and the sound quality in general. I did purchase the Dekoni limitied edition Stella pads for them, and must say they are actually more comfortable and do open the sound stage some. It also adds some more bass which I eq down (not into heavy bass). Has anyone else tried these pads? interested in your thoughts on theses or other pads you might have tried. I have notice Focal does not sell original Celestee pads.
@Ray_Cabrera : Hi, I’m new to this forum.
I bought a Celestee about three month ago. I bought a pair of Dekoni fenestrated pads about 2 weeks ago. Same as for those you bought, they improve the confort and the image is wider. But finally I got back to the original pads as I found that It tended to make the image less precise, that precision was not good and I found also it took away all color of music.
Finally with those pads I had the feeling music was like a very good sketch compared to the original photo.
What about your pads ? Appart from image?
Thanks
@Resolve to your mind, is there any pad swapping scenario with the Elegia at all, that would place it level or even above the Celestee (with Celsetee pads)? Some rave about the Elegia with Dekoni Elite Sheep Skin pads (like @RetiariusFocal Elegia - Closed Back Headphones - Official Thread - #471 by Retiarius)
I can get both for similar price but was only able to try Celestee in person… The fit wasn’t perfect, which is why I’m also considering a Beyerdynamic 700 pro x. Looking to use for studio work also…
Celestee pads improved the elegia but I still would recommend EQ for that scenario. Same with Dekoni sheepskins, they bring up some of the bass but the refinement of Celestee or Radiance still isn’t quite there.
Hi, I just got these and would like to try them balanced, my iFi xDSD Gryphon takes a 4.4mm balanced cable, I’m happy with the stock cable, would an adapter work or do I need a 3.5 to 4.4 balanced cable and if so any ideas where I can get one reasonably (I’m in Canada)? Thanks everyone.
The stock Celestee cables are single-ended. You cannot use an adapter to go from a balanced amplifier output to a single ended headphone connection; you risk destroying the amplifier.
You will need a proper balanced cable for your Celestee, 4.4mm Pentacon on the amplifier end, Focal-compatible 3.5mms on the headphone end.
