Koss Porta Pro-Unofficial Thread

I’m still getting used to it, but the BTR3 requires many repetitive clicks to raise volume. Holding the volume button will fastforward the track. Useful, but unexpected.

Very nice. It’s windy here today. You might consider substituting something more like this for the Double Sided Tape.

Good to know, I put my order in for em anyways

Going to use them at the Gym and that lifetime warranty will come in handy, thankfully I blast core n bass an metal when I lift so I shouldn’t catch much of that low level noise

I may try something like the BT Dac/Amps but I’d need to reconfigure the cable on my Wired’ porta pro first

I use three or four strips about one inch long of this stuff to hold 6" wide by 8 foot long hardwood boards together while flush routing with templates.

It’s not your normal double sided tape. :grinning:

@antdroid, love the cable mod. Red looks great with the black Porta Pros.

@ProfFalkin, that tape sounds legit!

I really appreciate everyone’s participation in this thread. The Porta Pro is such a fun headphone, especially in a Market that’s been trending in a direction that makes it difficult for some to have enthusiasm for something we all love, good sounding headphones.

Thanks again, everyone!

Just got a note from KOSS customer support that they found my 3rd note to them (sent from their webform) in their SPAM folder!. And they wanted to know how to make it up to me.

I’d already called customer support on the phone, got one set (for iPhone) at the 15% discount for new customers, deleted the two black/gold special editions, and pre-ordered the Drop X Porta Pros (2 sets) for delivery in May.

I 'splained that in email and we’ll see if I get a reply.

I ran off to State College on short notice Friday to help my wife with something. Only headphones I had were the KDE250s that I’d stashed in my travel bag a few months ago. Been listening to the Favorite Covers thread on my iPad Pro, no special equipment. Very competent travel phones.

They remind me of the Bang & Olufsen Earset (visually). Those were hit or miss comfort wise. Sonically they were very thin sounding.

Got a box today. Link here What's in the box!

Also got apologetic email from Koss about the bad customer experience. They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I pick out an Porta Pros and they send them to me free. I’ll keep ya all posted. I picked the wireless and the black and gold. I plan to give them away to family, and I still have the others (Drop X at $38) on order.

Not real impressed with the porta-pro stock pads. I have a spare set of Grado S pads that I think will fit reasonably well. Will try those eventually.

Maybe let us know how the wireless version sounds? Have heard mixed feedback from various places.

Yah, that’s the plan. I do an impression here, then pass em along to a grand-niece.

a support ticket is the best chance for a company to keep people talking positiv about the whole experiance
seems to me Koss understood this

I’m happy for your new Koss to have a nice place to rest
:slightly_smiling_face:
could you please take later on a picture or two with the original, the Yaxi and Grado S pads (not mounted) - so we could get an idea, how they are in size and thickness?

First I wish you an enjoyable sound David

The Grado S are too big. I had some other pads from who knows what that were smaller, but still a bit too big. I’ll look at what else might be available, but I’m using the stock pads for now. Yaxis can take a while to travel by slow boat to the US.

C’est ici! Les pad d’Yaxi en mes casques, PortaPros. Voila.

Sweet!

How do you like the sound?

They are more comfortable for sure. I haven’t really dived into the sound differences but there is definitely some changes. Seems to be a little more distant sounding, which is a good thing because I think the stock pads are too intimate, and shouty at times.

Yeah I think the Yaxis add a slight v shape character relative to stock, which is nice and moves focus away from the inherent 2k shout the 60 ohm driver has. I never found the 2k shoutiness bothersome but it is nice to have a slightly better FR balance overall with these, and their extra padding improves comfort a ton. Combine it with that 3rd party headband and it’s even more a winner

With the Yaxi’s I noticed a slightly larger soundstage, and this may sound odd, but better clarity in the highs.

And they’re still “boomy”.

I use them with a DFC and they sound fantastic. The ESS chip plays nice through the Porta Pros. Very resolving.
