Loxjie P20 Balanced 6N3 Tube Hybrid Amp for under $100

Cool. Thanks.

Using my amp this morning with my T5p.2’s.
I am using a cheap splitter out of my DAP to some old RCA’s to the back of my Loxjie. Out front I am using a balanced XLR cable to my headphones. Balanced input cable is literally on the slow boat from Hong Kong.

Volume is set at -25 with very efficient 32 Ohm headphones.

Not quite as clear as my Burson amp, but bassier. I don’t think I can really form any opinions until I have a fully balanced path. It does sound good to me though. Hopefully it will be a nice companion to the Burson.

It does get very warm. I thought the tubes would light up a lot more.

Man, those tubes are in tight! I am afraid to damage them in removal. I might use a small piece of rubber to get a better grip and then hopefully I won’t have to grip as hard.

I use a “rock around the clock” approach to remove tubes. Start at the bottom and work slowly clockwise pushing from the side. Push from 6, then 7, then 8, etc. Pull up as possible but don’t force them at all. After one or two rotations they come out. The skinny pins have a lot of friction.

Noted. Thank you!

How genteel. I just used to yank on them. Heck, Rat Shack was only a few blocks away, and most tubes I used cost under $3. 12AX7 35W4 and a couple of 35C5 s. I think that was some sort of magic incantation.

I haven’t gotten around to ordering any tubes yet but I did get around to installing the socket savers. The tubes look a little bigger now

(also, no longer do they light up purple!)

But…but…purple…

I received my Loxjie balanced Tube Hybrid amp today. I have the Geshelli Labs Enog 2 Pro connected to via XLR. So far I am impressed with the sound of that combo. I will do more impressions and a review in the future after the tubes run for awhile. I am also waiting on a balanced cable for the Sennheiser HD600 so I will be able to hear them balanced and compare with the Aune X7S.

Do you have the enog2 hooked up to the P20 with XLR’s? What do you think of the Geshelli amp?

Shane D

I absolutely love the Geshelli Enog2 and Archel Pro. I am using XLR to connect the P20 to the Enog2. I think the Archel Pro is a good amp but it is best when matched with the Enog2.

I really don’t need an amp, but was curious about your thoughts.

I like Geshelli, but no USB is a problem for me. I know I could buy a converter, but I hate having something extra in the line if not needed.

I think the Geshelli would look great between my computer and the Vanatoo’s though. And I would go purple.

I got my balanced cable today for my my P20. Not a bad time frame: Ordered from Amazon/Hong Kong on April 12th and received on May 1st.
Don’t notice a huge difference though.

I was very surprised about one thing though: the volume from my DAP is the same via balanced as it was via SE. I checked via DB meter.

When you are going straight to headphones, there is a noticeable difference.

Interesting thought. I haven’t used the Geshelli with speakers.

I have the Gustard U12 USB interface and it works flawlessly. Doesn’t take up too much space.

Cool video, but probably overkill for me. I have two amps and no DAC at this point, although that will changing soon, DAC wise.

How often do you use ALL the gear that you have?

Another thought on my new cable. There is a definite hum with that cable going directly from DAP to amp. Max the volume and it is pretty loud. I don’t notice it when the music is playing but maybe I do subconciously?

Pause songs it is noticeable. Also, if I move the DAP/cable around it gets louder or quieter.

After a short trial I must admit that I was not overly impressed with balanced in vs RCA in. Going from DAP to headphone there is a huge difference between the outputs, but not with the amp.

This is consistent with my experience too.

I bought a DAP 4 pin 2.5mm to XLR cable and it added no value. I believe the issue is that DAPs have a virtual ground and the balanced architecture depends on a true ground. Furthermore, if you are using the DAP headphone out, the signal is probably going through the volume (and possibly tone/bass boost) control, and this can degrade signal quality.

After messing around with DAP output, I switched to the conventional line out to RCA and am pretty happy for now. I’m waiting for the right balanced DAC to hit the market before trying again.
