Loxjie P20 Balanced 6N3 Tube Hybrid Amp for under $100

I believe AtomicBob’s measurements said it was around 47 Ohm OI

I obviously should have read this thread before posting about my setup. I’m waiting for the Grace balanced DAC and the Loxjie balanced amp, along with balanced cables for the HD6xx’s and the HE4xx’s and the XLR cables from DAC to amp. Seems to be the setup to beat at $350/shipped for a full balanced tube system.

Quick update. I finally received the MassDrop Grace SDAC Balanced, some weeks ago. It’s being powered by my Raspberry PI 3B+.

My impression going from single ended to balanced, meh… better but not drastically better. I feel like there are more details coming out overall, but the low end isn’t quite the same as what I was experiencing before. The balanced setup just has “more” of everything overall, except for what I think is a different sounding low end, maybe less low end. Still formulating an opinion.

It is likely just my perception with all of this, but I wasn’t totally blown away with the difference. If I had specifically bought a SE DAC to pair with the amp originally, I probably would have been frustrated with the eventual move to Balanced. However, since I was using a SE DAC I already had laying around with eventual plan to upgrade to balanced, I’m satisfied, and can now repurpose my SE DAC for a different project. I would recommend the DAC with the loxjie, especially due to both of their budget price points. Likely an awesome budget combo!!!

Nice little setup. What headphones are you using?

Drop (now massDrop) HD6XX, connected via Periapt custom cables. It’s an excellent sounding budget setup. It’s taken my audio/sound quality expectations to the next level for sure. Very pleased overall with the current system. No upgrade plans for me, at least in the near future.

my worry is, once the socket savers are there, is there a way to take it out?

Welcome @kyeblue.

Welcome kyeblue.

Back in the days when tubes were common, use of socket savers was unusual except in rare instances where some maintenance issue such as vibration existed and frequent tube changes were expected.

With a little care, most sockets will be just fine without savers. Savers might be useful if there’s a reason to want to change the height of a tube, but in my experience short tube replacements are rarely a problem.

I can see wanting to take out a socket saver for a tall tube when there is a metal tube protector that will not fit. Other than that, I don’t know why you would want to remove a socket saver unless it is just esthetics.

That said there should be no problem removing a socket saver. If it was soldered on (unlikely but possible) you need to know how to desolder and have the appropriate tool to suck up old solder.

At worst, if you mess up badly, you can always replace the socket.

I’m considering getting one of these next week in the 11.11 sale to get my toes wet in the tube world. Will match it with my Sabaj D5 (BAL out) and my Focal Elegia & Sendy Aivas. A good match you think?

The P20 will elevate and thicken the mid bass (factory tubes), but it cleans up with replacement tubes (see discussion above). I don’t have experience with the D5 but it should be fine. Don’t bother with the Loxjie unless you use balanced cables from the headphones. I also don’t have experience with the Sendy.

Thanks, yes I plan to use it all BAL with the Aivas and Elegias. If I get it I’ll shortly go shopping for replacement tubes, most likely matched GE 5670s plus some socket savers.

I’m missing my P20, I want to get back to my office and headphones. I’m tired of airport and hotel food!! :frowning:

My socket savers come out with the tube every time. I almost wish they didn’t, easier to align the pins with the socket savers in place.

I have a P20 with stock tubes and GE JAN 5670 tubes I am not using anymore. If your interested send me a message.

This is on sale on Amazon for $64 after discounts! :fire: :fire: :fire:
