Well I would have to say these are not all my amps!! Hahah most are sent in by the company or great members of this forum for me to review. So @ProfFalkin has the bigger collection. I just get to have fun with some stuff and film it and try not to drool in the process
I got an “LR 1 Line Router” switch from Maple Tree Audio. It looks like the standard one is 3-in 3-out, but they’ll custom build too.
Mine is 1-in 3-out, which they’d already built for someone else who then changed their mind. Al, the guy who built it, was really nice about customizing the wood panels for me, because I told him that it had to complement my ZMF gear. He went above and beyond, rummaging through their supplies of wood, and excitedly sent me an email telling me he found some sapele. Definitely not cheap, but very well built and looks great. And it makes it so easy switching between my Lyr 3, Asgard 3 and Pendant.
Gosh at one time i had 20+ amps here and several dacs etc…
Now I am down to about 9 amps and 2 dacs…I ususally get up and pop cables on and off depending on what I am testing or reviewing or experiencing…With the Bifrost 2 I have the balanced and se outs going to two different amos, no swithching needed. Then I sometimes us a Y splitter to get a third amp connected vis SE.
Being a “purist” I dont like using switch box’s and adding more cables and connections. I just get up and move cables around when needed. With the Bifrost 2 and other dacs u can get several amps connected to it easily.
I understand the ease of a switchbox…just not worth it to me here.
I understand your thinking on having more cables with a switch box, however I haven’t had any cable related issues with the 4 different switchers I have. They all work fine for when I’m in a mood to change something around. As they used to say, “Different Strokes for Different Folks”.
So the latest live stream from Schiit with Jason and Tyler had some interesting topics…
The CD transport they think they have a “working” prototype, and are going to build some units to go into beta testing!! Wonder how many folks are willing to find that cd and pop it into a transport and use this method for source material over digital streaming or using ripped stuff on your computer?
The 10 tube monster amp that Jason has at home, which he stated he thought was the best sounding amp Schiit has ever built? May not see the light of day but interesting for sure. He mentioned it was only 500 mw at 32 ohms and 2 watts at 600 ohms…hmmm.
Me. I want to have more actual physical copies of my favourite music so I’m thinking about getting a good transport and expanding my CD collection. I’d be curious about price point and form factor.
There were some hints as to the price and form factor. If i remember correctly the form factor is Freya “like”…and a price was mentioned approx $1299 or $1399 etc…or in this area.
Also i think the actual transport is a 'Phillips" mechanism.
Again nothing is solid here until its actually made into a real product.
Eeeehhhh… No real interest in either. I gave up on spinners years ago (other than to rip to NAS, obviously) and fumbling around with disks isn’t a mess I want to create next to, or all over, my desk.
As for the 10 tube monster, it depends on the tubes. 6SN7? Something like that? If I gotta go get 10 Sylvania Bad Boys, then… hell no. (You know someone out there would do that tho.)
Jason did mention the tubes, I think they were the 6N1P and 6N6Ps they have thousands of? No 6SN7’s mentioned…but who knows at this point of the journey.
As of yesterday, the Schiitr has the recently released Jot 2, Vali 2+, Magnius, and Modius available for listen. I didn’t inquire into the Modi 3+. It’s also possible to compare the Asgard 3 and Asgard 2. The mats have yet to be updated.
