The Off Topic

In the current situation with Ukraine, this sequence which I vividly remember from film class at Penn State, (and which I showed several times as a student projectionist for other film classes) comes to mind.

The above is the complete sequence from the movie The Battleship Potemkin by Sergei Eisenstein. Produced in 1925, it is known for this sequence, an utterly masterful collage. Yes, the city of Odessa is the same as the city of Odesa, in southern Ukraine, which again is in peril.

Is it ok if I post community invites here?

If so, I’ve posted one below!

Cloudflare community invite (expires in 3 months)

https://community.cloudflare.com/invites/tzKMd7cV14

If it’s not ok to post community invites (like the one above), please let me know!

I’m not in charge, but @SenyorC has been requesting that if any invites to other sites are posted you should state clearly why and explain something about it. I’d edit that post to at least meet standard.

That said, I think that I tried Cloudflare once years ago and found it a rats nest of advertising and questionable links. I hope it’s changed if you posted here. That could have been just the particular link within Cloudflare that I was pointed at.

TechRadar says that it is a hosting site with additional security. Are you posting the link in order to get some sort of credit?

LATER NOTE: I asked this because recently we’ve had a lot of external linking activity that has not been clear and @SenyorC has had to remove the links. I’ve talked privately with @Headphone25 and he’s added informative content to his post, which is always appreciated here in this forum. I apologize in advance to the mods if I have stepped up where it isn’t desired, but I’m just sitting at home waiting for the annual termite inspection, so I had time to be meddlesome.

I’m in the CF community and it’s pretty good!

Hidden text

Though there are occasional political discussions involving the hell that’s going in involving Ukraine and Russia right now!

Facts as to why the CF community is a good place!
  1. It is very engaging (Example post below)

Welcome! Say hello! - Meta - Cloudflare Community

Another example (look at the like to post ratio on this one)

Random Cloudflare memes - Meta - Cloudflare Community

And another one (with a high like to post ratio)

Domain registered via cloudflare registrar missing nameservers - Registrar - Cloudflare Community

And another example

Recognizing MVP @erictung - Meta - Cloudflare Community

And I could provide MANY more examples of posts on that community with a high, very high, or extremely high like to post ratio

  1. Users are typically nice (though there are some arguments here and there, but don’t arguments occur on EVERY community forum from time to time?)

And I could provide many more examples, but I’m going to keep this as short as possible!

Answer: No, I’m not!

What is the “Cloudflare Community?” ELI5, please.

I don’t use it. My guess is that it is competition to Discord, which I only use at light saber point.

A place for Cloudflare users to engage with each other and with Cloudflare staff.

Okay. So you are active on this forum for cloud-based platforms and applications and want to tell the guys over there about the awesome “Headphone Community?” How did the idea come about to spread the gospel of personal audio to this group of people?

Actually, it’s quite the opposite! I’m trying to tell y’all about the “Cloudflare Community”

No idea, but discourse forums are public (I belive I learned about this community via Google)

Oh, silly me. So, am I right in assuming you kind of have to be involved in the tech sector to know what the Cloudflare community even does?

Thanks @pennstac . I am certainly not in charge either, just someone with a few extra buttons.

That’s the thing I like most about this forum, everyone is (usually) easy going and the forum (mostly) moderates itself.

Just to clear up the subject of the links…

As long as links are relevant to the discussion and the person posting them is clear about their intentions, I have no issues with them.

The issue I have is when users, usually people who have registered recently or have very little activity on the forum, just drop a link without further explanation or, even worse, include a link inside their post. These links are usually to random sites full of either Amazon affiliate links (like “the ten best gaming headphones with RGB lighting”) or content that is “dubious” at best.

Sometimes I do miss the links, especially from older registered users that I don’t keep an eye on, so if you see a post like it, please feel free to report it or tag me. Both options are free!

The sort of posts I am referring to are along these lines:

“Wow, great review. I really like how you described these headphones

(obviously the link I just included is not to some random dodgy site, it is to an excellent headphone store  )

Ehh… Somewhat. But you still have to know things about Cloudflare!

I still don’t see exactly what your community is and why someone from here would want to join it. Are there high quality headphone or audio discussions? Are known industry insiders participating? Or engineers that have learned to write clear, cogent, and entertaining sentences in English or another human language?

I get that you think it’s groovy or as Ziggy Stardust might say, “Really quite outta sight!” But why would I want to spend my limited leisure time there rather than catching up on season 4 clone wars animations?

I’ve spent a little time looking up stuff on the company and competitors. I still am clueless about the community aspect. However it appears as if searching Cloudflare vs Zscaler will yield discussion of these two major internet security companies. From my standpoint as a financial advisor, the search results relating to their business was interesting.

I’m going to have to issue your first warning for posting a link to such a dodgy website .

On the topic of links though, if you’re only contribution to the forum of late has been self promotion instead of active community discussion, those links will be removed.

Beyond that, the typical affiliate link farms, illegal links, etc… get removed. Usually they don’t pass the approval process in the first place but the bots can be sneaky sometimes.

There are some fluent English speakers like myself in the community!

Its a DNS provider, such as Google, and your ISP.

Yes, it’s a DNS provider, but also a DDOS (Distributed Denial (Of Service) protector, performance/speed enhancer, and many other things!

Those are the functional requirements for being a DNS provider.
