That Rolex is $8100 new from an Authorized Dealer - that’s MSRP - that’s what they’ll charge (discounts are unlikely on current Rolex sports models due to massive demand and current supply limits).
The only way you’re paying $15,000 for it is if you buy it used or through a broker.
With Invicta, it’s more common that the MSRP is listed as being much as 10x what they actually sell for (ADs and cruise ships will often stick to MSRP and then have “sale days”). I think the Pro Diver model you have there is normally listed at $250, and while Invicta themselves often list it for less, it’s almost ALWAY $80 or less from Amazon or any of a number of other retailers no matter what Invicta are listing it at.
I was shocked too. My price and photo came from huge Jomashop. COVID stimulus effect? I’ve seen the massive gaps in Invicta pricing (no research possible on cruise ships – buy one, get one 1/2 off!). Yes, the automatic Pro Diver is often cheaper than $100.
Jomashop aren’t an AD for Rolex (nor many, perhaps most, of the other brands they sell). Their most common model is to buy up legitimate watches from ADs or other (legal) outlets. So what they sell is authentic. But they aren’t then bound by the AD requirements in observing MSRP. You also won’t get warranty service from the manufacturer as a result.
So they can charge what they want.
They’re great if you don’t care about warranties (or are content with their third-party service - though there are myriad potential issues there). Also, if you’re buying something where the amount you save is enough to buy another one if it fails, that’s also a nice scheme.
Otherwise, it’s more that they’re usually cheaper than retail (that’s their “thing” … “Never pay retail” … but most watch enthusiasts don’t anyway) and/or they sometimes have things that are hard to get otherwise (albeit at higher prices than MSRP).
You do have to be careful though … some manufacturers will not service a watch at all (even at your cost) that doesn’t have a verifiable end-customer purchase in its history.
…
On the last cruise I did, they had some of the fancier Invicta pieces going for $2,000 (MSRP). On “sale day” they were $1,250 or so. Same watch on Amazon … $225 … any day of the week.
An alternative was Off Topic, which is where its going now.
We have a general ideal of keeping noise-topics to a minimum. Not every question/thought needs its own thread. Super-specific questions belong in the general advice threads. Pure noise belongs in the off-topic thread.
