I really love the colour. Blue is my favourite.
Ended up deciding on the Tissot PRX (blue dial) for my first pickup. Getting a nice friends and family discount from buddy who’s a local watch dealer to make it even sweeter as soon as they are in stock.
Grabbing a Bulova Lunar Pilot next if I end up deciding watches are for me as this my first “non smartwatch watch.”
I have yet to buy my first smartwatch watch. I guess I’ve been waiting for them to be perfected. Someday I will break down and buy an Apple watch, because now it can become part of my bicycle riding ecosystem. The ride app works with the ebike and tracks my ride, cadence, and if I add a smartwatch, my heart rate.
OTOH, (pun intended) I got my non-smartwatch watch so I could avoid looking at screens at night.
I’m not into watches, I don’t actually have a use for one outside of the gym, but I came across this wood and leather watch and fell in love with it and immediately ordered it.
Speaking of watches for the gym, does anyone use a smartwatch with Spotify that they recommend?
Do you mean a smartwatch in the sense of running spotify directly from the watch, or having spotify controls but running spotify from your phone?
I use my Galaxy Watch to control music while working out, but keep my phone near me and have music running through a Qudelix 5k and often a set of CIEMs live stage style down my back.
I want to leave the phone behind in the locker and run Spotify directly from the watch. I just need to be able to start a playlist on it and then I control the rest on my IEMs.
I don’t care for smart watches, but have been thinking about getting one because I’m bicycling. Would like to collect heart rate. Yes, I know there are cheaper heart rate monitors, but I use the miserable GIANT cycling app on my iPhone. This can upload info to STRAVA which I have not yet set up. Given the eco-system, is an Apple smart watch the only rational choice?
If so, is the 6 ready for prime time yet? I guess…if I ever go to the beach it would be nice to leave the cellphone at the hotel. That’s a more aspirational thought than a real one, since I have logged about a 30 beach days in the past score of years.
A 6 without cellular might work. And I might use the ekg feature. Or might not.
Thoughts. Maybe I need to wait for Apple Watch version 10 for it to be worked out to an acceptable level of refinement.
For me that’s not the main issue–oh you who doesn’t want Google spying on your searches! I shopped for an Apple Watch when it first came out, but consciously decided against having Apple looking over my shoulder all day and everywhere. While convenient, it’s not appealing. Ever.
I did break down and buy a refurb Series 6 watch. It won’t look over my shoulder unless I actually wear it - which I will when I bicycle. At my advanced age, my spouse will like that it will call her if I happen to yell “Hey, watch this!!” while bicycling, and reap the consequences with a hard fall.
I see that it has Bluetooth 5 and that the Radio Paradise app appears in the watch apps. QOBUZ and TIDAL do not (I cancelled Tidal anyway). Did not spring for the cellular model. Any discount from Verizon would be eaten in 10 months by having to add a line for it.
Looking at the documentation is yet another thing that’s causing me to get behinder than ever on the forum.
Hi, how long does the solar watch take to charge? Does it charge when you wear it?
I have owned or tried three brands of solar watches:
-
Citizen: They are the king of the mainstream, with hundreds of sports, business, dress, casual, and outdoor models. Mine charge easily on the wrist, and are said to reach full capacity quickly in direct sunlight (e.g., less than an hour will last for months in darkness). They start to skip seconds (30 moves per minute) when low, and then go into safety mode when too weak. Sometimes in winter I put them all next to a sunny window for a day or two.
-
Casio: King of low end sports watches. Mine charges as well as Citizen, but has a finicky interface. It’s a lot more prone to sleep than the Citizen (i.e., the hands stop at 12:00), but wakes easily. It has a lot of features but is difficult to adjust, so I don’t use it much any more.
-
Seiko: I had a bad experience with one sample. Mine was DOA and wouldn’t charge after being left in sunlight for several days. The vendor couldn’t believe it, but agreed and refunded my money when I sent it back. I don’t think they in the same technological league as Citizen and Casio.
Oh nice, thanks for your answer !! I’ll see because I always find very interesting this technology, but I had doubt about it practicity
Any thoughts no the Tissot PRX Powermax 80?
They’re nice pieces and likely the leader for integrated bracelet designs at this price point. I have looked into buying one. For non integrated, there is the Gentleman 80 and Seiko Prospex Alpinist series.
Agreed. I think they’ve done an incredible job on the integrated bracelet for the price. The Gentleman 80 reminds me of the Aqua Terra which I like.
That watch looks very cool, but it is a BEAST! It looks like it’ll go deeper than 200M, more like to the bottom of the ocean ![]()
Revisiting this post. I made a leap and sold my submariner (At an insane price for a 20+ year old model).
It was enough to pay for a quarter of the cost of my brand new Tacoma TRD Offroad.
Went to the dark side and purchased Apple 7 watch in Titanium. Part of the motivation was joining the
Heartline study which Apple is one of the sponsors,
Prior to owning, I was a skeptic about smart watches but I have really become a fan.
So much information about health and exercise hanging on your wrist. FWIW, I do have heart disease
so that was an added motivation.
Does anyone have experience with Baltic Watch, or dealing with other microbrands? Baltic seems to be breaking out, and has a solid reputation.
Sample product (channeling a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms):
Those look really great!
Here are two microbrands I’m interested in you may like as well:
