I no longer own that piece of gear (amp). I was generally able to successfully address the buzz/hum by plugging all equipment into a single power strip and minding better cable management/organization/isolation of power cables vs audio cables. I didn’t try to specifically identify my “solution” once attaining it, in order to not risk reverting back to the problematic state.
Everything sounds great im just noticing there is a lot of white noise coming off the iphone, is there a way to eliminate this?
Its an Iphone xs max, running FiiO on a 3.5 to solaris iems.
Welcome to the forums!
Campfire Audio IEMs are notorious for their high sensitivity. It is likely the FiiO amp is a poor match for them, which is why you are experiencing this hiss.
Do you happen to have the Apple lightning dongle handy? If so, just to test, try using it instead.
People often buy dedicated digital audio players (DAPs) for use with high-end CFA IEMs like yours.
If it is a sensitivity issue and you are using 3.5mm connection there is a product called iEMatch from iFi that lowers the signal level thus reducing/eliminating the hiss on sensitive iem’s.
I’ll second the use of the IEMatch to reduce hiss.
Another option for you might be the Lotoo Paw S1, which pairs nicely with the Solaris. It’s $165 new in the US (here) and you’d need a Type C to Lightning OTG cable (like this one here). There’s no hiss, at least not to my middle-aged ears, and this dongle does justice to the Solaris’s open, spacious, and airy soundstage. It also offers a bunch of preset EQ options that, while gimmicky, might be of interest. The one downside to the S1 is that it doesn’t sound as good when powered from a phone. It’s better out of a tablet and, in turn, out of a laptop.
A newer, updated model, the S2, has just come out but it’s another $100 and I’m not sure what changes or advantages it offers beyond more power, which is something that you won’t need for the Solaris. I mention this just to avoid confusion and because you might see a bunch of the S1 dongles go on sale (or come up for sale used).
Welcome to the forum.
I have a Q3 as well and I just plugged my Shure SE846 (9 ohms @ 1kHz) into the 3.5mm jack. Q3 was plugged into a S8 phone. Listened to a couple of songs and couldn’t detect any anomalies.
Is there a particular song where this is noticeable?
Cheers.
As above the ifi IEMatch is what I use with my Campfire Andromedas.
Ok, so I was running (with my headphones on my phone, playing music) when it got snagged on something and pulled it out! I stopped running to see if any damage had occurred and (unfortunately) it bent the headphone jack! I know this is repairable, but I don’t know how to do so! So does anyone got some steps on how to repair this myself? I’ll be waiting for a reply and hope that someone can help me fix this!
Got pictures of the damage? If the cable is removeable then I think it would be easier to replace the cable but if not removeable then it gets a bit harder. Some fixed cables are really hard to solder while others are easy.
Non-headphone troubleshooting question. Someone who is good at sorting out old BIOS (Toshiba 355D) and Linux boot loader issues please message me. I installed a 512 gb SSD, and Lubuntu (from a flash drive, hash verified). The computer can see the SSD just fine, read and write, but can’t find it as a boot drive. Using GRUB, maybe I should try LILO, or another distro, one that comes with LILO. Must be lightweight. Boots fine from USB. BIOS shows no boot device found without the USB. I’ve disabled LAN boot, but that doesn’t help.
I gave the headphones to a friend so they can try to repair them (by super gluing them together or smth like that)
I have the A&K kann max…
it says I can use a 1TB card… it also says to format card to FAT32
That is not one of the options on my computer for a format of the card…
I show either exFAT or NTFS…
What should I do ?
You must be using Windows (as in, “only Windows has such restrictions”, rather than “you need Windows to do this”).
For a long time (maybe as far back as Windows 7), FAT32 has only be available for volumes of 32GB or less. You’ll either need to:
-
Format the card in/using the KAAN itself:
Settings → System Information → Erase SD Card
-
Use the FORMAT command from the command line, and manually specify the FAT32 format. This tends to be extremely slow (can take hours for large volumes, i.e. above 32GB):
I think the command is:
format /FS:FAT32 X:
(where X: is the drive letter for your microSD card).
-
Use a third-party disk formatting tool.
Sorry, can’t recommend one as I don’t use them (I use the next option):
-
Format the card using macOS or Linux, neither of which has Window’s silly restrictions for this (FAT32 is supposed to support 8TB volumes; though it’s glacially slow in such cases).
Yes… using windows….
I tried the format with command prompt, but at 99% completed, it said it failed…. Because the volume is too large….
Thanks for the info
Shelly
Windows and Mac OS are too restrictive when formatting sd cards. They will likely cause frustrations.
.
Instead, I use the most popular formatting application in Linux called Gparted. It sometimes comes preinstalled on some Linux distributions otherwise it should easily be installed with whatever software manager that comes with the Linux distributions. Full control over formatting your sd cards to common file systems such as FAT32, NTFS, exFAT.
Second this. Even a very weak old Linux system like I tend to build with obsolete laptops can format sd cards - even large ones - much faster than windows.
Hey can anyone help me with my Se846’s? I am simply looking for a video on removal of the tips that came with them. I can’t seem to get them off no matter how much I try. I can’t seem to find a video or any discussion about removing the eartips, I just want to put new ones on/replace these tips as they have shrek wax on them.
Do you mean the eartips or the metallic nozzle under it?
Care to send a picture or two?
The comply tip/whatever the white piece is that goes ONTO my tube insert(the thing I’d use the hand dandy tool to unscrew with is not my concern). The black tip won’t come off and I’m not sure what push pull twist or turn method to get the black tip off so I can replace it with a fresh one. perhaps I’m supposed to take the whole tube off? I just don’t know.
